Pens sign Filip Gustavsson to Entry Level Contact

Gustavsson was a 2016 2nd round pick (#55). Of course, three-year deal (required) at $775,833 per.

Last year, Gustavsson was a backup in the SHL (roughly, the 3rd best league in the world), for Lulea. He also played for their J20 team (a U20 developmental team). He also was a backup on the Swedish WJC team in 2017 after winning U18 WJCs best goaltender award.

I expect he'll be back in Sweden in 2017-18, which is the right move for his development.

His projection hasn't changed from when he was drafted really. He's on the right course. I love his ability to get in and out of the butterfly so quickly, that's one of his best assets in my opinion. He's a work in progress like most '98s are right now...he'll come over and diddle around in camp, he'll work with some of our guys and go back home and split the nets with Joel Lassinantti - who I'm guessing is some sort of sverigefinnar based on his name...but I don't actually know...

Don't care. 2 Finnish goalies have ever hoisted a cup (and one of those were a backup). Zero from Sweeden, zero from Norway, zero from Denmark. I guess I should say Nordic Countries, not Scandinavian.

Hank has done all he could...he's gotta give out soon though, this year might have been his worst season...there's a lot of mileage on this guy...he knows every day he goes to work that Marc Staal, Dan Girardi, Matt Gilroy, Matt Hunwick, Adam Clendening, someone like that is going to play way too much...mentally, that must be taxing...
