Ovechkin best since Gretzky?

This ****** at the Washington Post says so mainly to a stat he seemed to have invented. Directly calls out Crosby and Mario. Thankfully even most Caps fans aren't that retarded and are disagreeing in the comments.

Pens related...?
Ovechkin best since Gretzky?
That's not in dispute. But he's far from the best since Gretzky and its debatable if he's even the best player overall right now.

Anyway, its kind of funny. He's looking at pure numbers without any context.
Its like saying Karl Malone is better than MJ because he scored more

Ovechkin best since Gretzky?
I thought about Burr but he was kind of a contemporary of Gretzky

Even Flyers fans who weren't trying to stir the pot would take issues going as far as Lemieux.
You want to put him above Crosby? Fine, whatever, I wouldn't agree but I wouldn't care to argue. But Lemieux is in the Mount Rushmore of Hockey. Ovechkin (and Crosby for that matter) as of now are just boogers hanging out of Gretzky, Lemieux, Howe, and Orr's nose. Maybe when their careers are over you will see them on the observation deck getting a better view.

Wow. Oversensitive Pens fans... The guy states his theory that AO is making his case as to why he's better than Crosby / Mario (basically stating they're his competition for best player since Gretzky. He then mentions a couple stats that Ovy exceeds them on. Do I agree with his conclusion? Absolutely not. Is it a "slamming our beloved Penguins piece". No, not at all...
Ovechkin best since Gretzky?
Pretty dumb article, but not the crap dumping on Pens that some are making it.
Ovechkin best since Gretzky?
I can understand comparing Ovechkin to Sid, but Mario was so far ahead, so much more dominant, only a Washington reporter could have written that piece. I didn't even read it, because I watched Mario and I watched OV and there is no comparison.Wow. Oversensitive Pens fans... I'd take an in his prime Jagr over OV anyway. Part of me thinks that is nostalgia for one of the best players when I grew up, but most of me thinks its correct.

It's close but I would probably take OV over Jagr but the Mario comparisons are silly.I'd take an in his prime Jagr over OV anyway. Part of me thinks that is nostalgia for one of the best players when I grew up, but most of me thinks its correct.
Ovechkin best since Gretzky?
I still think I'd take Jagr over OV. JJ was a much better overall player. OV is elite at shooting but there is a lot that JJ did waaaay better.

I'd take Jagr over Ovechkin as well...the gap is narrowing...

And will widen again in a few years when Ovechkin can't play his borderline dirty game because he's gotten a step slower.I'd take Jagr over Ovechkin as well...the gap is narrowing...
I'd put Forsberg above Ovechkin too.

Well...just talking wingers...there's a few guys above Ovechkin still (~10ish) but he's way up there...purely left wings, only Bobby Hull is definitively better historically...then depending on your value of Ted Lindsay and to a lesser extent, Valeri Kharlamov, will depend on where he slots from there...he's way up there though...
If you took everything into account, Forsberg and Ovechkin are probably pretty close...though only Ovechkin has the ability to pull away, and he's going to add another Maurice Richard and (likely) 2nd place Hart finish (best skater though) to his resume...

In no order, you figure Lemieux, Gretzky, Bobby Hull, Mike Bossy...then you figure guys like Phil Esposito, Maurice Richard, Alexander Ovechkin, Gordie Howe...then I guess it probably opens up a little bit...Pavel Bure, Charlie Conacher, throw in some high peak guys like Lafleur and Brett Hull...that's about the size of it probably...
So, yeah, he's in the 5ish discussion...
