What If The Pens Dont Make The Playoffs?
Do the fans comeback? Does the sellout streak endure? Do they give this team the enema it just might need?
*I really dont think we will miss the playoffs, but PR needs some threads. And well...it actually could happen.

I really doubt it happens but I think a 1st round exit in 4-5 games is basically the same thing. If that happens then I expect a pretty big on ice personnel shake up. Maybe even moving Babcock in if possible. Something has to happen...

Two posters bet on this very issue in the vaguely recent past and I trust that the terms would be honored here.

Better draft pick. Will come in handy since they're somehow short on defenseman.

Given the cap situation, the contracts they have, and the lack of the first round pick there's a limited amount that can be fixed. They could move a major piece (one of the big four) but I wouldn't make book on it.
The best thing that happens (baring a crazy offseason accident or accidents) is that the health button resets and we get Letang, Maata, and Dupuis back. Maybe even Kunitz resumes somewhat useful status if he gets over the anemia he does or does not have. Then they might get some better pieces parts or some young guys step up on defense and a miracle happens and someone steps up at forward too.

I understand Babcock is a better coach than either Bylsma(who isn't) or HCMJ. I understand he's considered one of best in the league. But Detroit hasn't won a Cup since they lost to us. Sure they might've won a few more playoff games but they've gotten bounced every year just like us. Some might say he doesn't have the high end talent to work with. But we don't have Detroit's depth. Or, more importantly, their intestinal fortitude. Babcock might motivate the team a bit more. But can he make the entire team willing to do whatever it takes to win it all? I'm not convinced that'd be the case.

I gave this suggestion at the other board at one point:
1. Miss playoffs
2. Get Edmonton to tank and get last place
2. Payoff someone to make sure the Pens get the 1st pick (this would be Edmonton's)
3. Trade Crosby to Edmonton for McDavid and Eichel
4. Profit

Relax. It's all part of the plan. Drop to a wild card spot - check. Go into a series as the lower seed - check. Play piss poor hockey down the stretch to make everyone thing you suck - check. Flip the switch and go 16-0 in the post season - soon to be checked.

I would use my playoff ticket money to get nintendo games.

I think secondary market tickets would be much cheaper next year too.

Honestly, I'm expecting a first round exit in the playoffs this year.
Which is really a shame because of the season Fleury has had - they've just squandered it.

If this organization misses the playoffs fire everyone. Because you just know if we are in the lottery we will win and hand over the #1 overall to Edmonton.
I don't even know which specific thing to blame, tying up cap space in Ehrhoff instead of addressing top 6 depth, rushing Maatta back, Dupuis getting hurt, Greiss being garbage in the 3rd...just so many things have gone wrong.

People really think we're going to give up a five point cushion with five games to go...that's a little silly...

Yea the chances of that happening are slim. Knowing this team, we win both games this weekend and basically clinch, then lose the last 3People really think we're going to give up a five point cushion with five games to go...that's a little silly...
What If The Pens Dont Make The Playoffs?
I think once the nail a play-off spot down, this is still a relevant topic - it would just become "What happens if the Pens lose in the first round?"

So...it becomes a different topic...? Because how far does that game last...? Then it becomes "What happens if the Pens lose in the second round?" I understand the gloominess to some degree, but I don't understand the equivalency...

Yeah, I thought FreeCandy (and everyone who engaged the scenario) made it pretty clear that this was entirely hypothetical...Do they?People really think we're going to give up a five point cushion with five games to go...that's a little silly...
*(Edited for correct OP - I need to drink some more tea. Geez.)

I've seen a 16 page thread on "Should the Pens trade Crosby?" I've seen a 339 page thread called "Top 6 winger acquisition" filled with ridiculous, nonsensical trade ideas. Surely this is not the silliest (or even silly enough to be called silly) thing you've ever read on a Pens message board.

Wait, so you're saying I can't start a thread called "Younger, Tougher, Faster, Stonger, and Hungrier"?
