Let's not sign Corey Perry.
Why not? We’d at least get to the cup finals.

So Yohe just posted that the thought is that Malkin not being signed yet, is assuming he's done with the Penguins. Based on Hextall not wanting to offer him the money he's looking for.

Letang is looking for 8+.

So why does Hextall willingly give a guy like Carter any money, but plays hardball with stars?

Mentions Trocheck and Miller as replacements (Miller being on a deal).

How do you know he didn't play hardball with Carter...? He took, what, a 40% paycut to stay here? Making $3 mil and producing at a ~25 goal, 50-55 point pace since being here...?

Getzlaf went 5+12 in 48 games -> Got $3 mil.
Stastny went 13+16 in 56 games -> Got $3.75 mil

Carter was 21+16 in 50 games at the time that he signed that contract and got $3.125 mil.

And Yohe naming MIller as a replacement is just naming other players in the league that are good...his asset cost is going to be out of our range.

If we don't spend for Letang or Geno is anyone really out of our range? We'd have legit cap space

J.T. Miller is not a free agent and just had like a 100 point season...asset cost.

The tone of the Yohe piece was rather negative. Hextall is pretty far apart on years and numbers with all of our internal FAs and he likely isn’t willing to offer the cash/term necessary to land anyone of consequence in FA.

Ahh I thought that was a free agent suggestion. Yeah we aren't trading for any Geno/Letang replacements

His article just assumes that no conversations with Geno means he's probably gone. That's a leap.

Theyre working on letang, there's probably a decision deadline, then they'll go from there.

Not really any news here other than being apart on tern with letang

I mean, he's not gonna not spend the 23M of cap space plus any additional cleared...

Hes hard line about negotiations through the media so I would take anything you hear as meaningless

Letang is likely to test the market, but that doesn't mean he's gone...

Testing the market implies they don't know what other teams are willing to pay. I have a hard time believing that.

I would imagine he can get significantly more on the market than the Penguins could afford, at least without sacrificing elsewhere.

If he's not signed by the end of that pre-free agency window July 7th and 8th, he's gone.

Here's the thing: if Letang and Geno want maximum $$$, they're better off elsewhere. If they want to win another Cup ... they're probably better off elsewhere, too.
