God I love that goal. Winding up on the breakaway felt like such a “**** you” to the Flyers.

Also I would’ve put the Carolina goal #1.

I miss the igloo. I always liked the Devil's goal the most, but I was surprised it was 2. Also thought for the sure Canes one would be #1. But, he's pretty good huh?

I remember watching that goal vs the Canes on the stationary bike at the old Holiday Inn in Indiana. One of those where you know exactly where you were when you saw it. Whole series was a laugher.

Bobby Clarke throwin' Hextall under the bus.
Ex-Flyer Bobby Clarke didn't hold back with his thoughts on the way Ron Hextall handled the draft as general manager of the Flyers.

Clarke, 72, was the senior vice president of hockey operations for the Flyers during Hextall's tenure as general manager, and remains in the organization now as a senior advisor.

Clarke made an appearance this week on the Cam & Strick Podcast hosted by former NHL forward Cam Janssen and Blues reporter Andy Strickland. He had several criticisms of Hextall's drafting with the Flyers, but his biggest gripe was with the 2017 draft.

The Flyers held the No. 2 overall pick, and selected forward Nolan Patrick. The next three players chosen in the draft were defensemen Miro Heiskanen (Dallas) and Cale Makar (Colorado), and forward Elias Pettersson (Vancouver).

Patrick played three seasons for the Flyers -- 2017-18, 2018-19 and 2020-21 -- and missed the 2019-20 season due to a migraine disorder. Patrick scored just four goals and five assists in 52 games in his final season with the Flyers. The Flyers traded Patrick and Philippe Myers to the Predators in exchange for Ryan Ellis, and then the Predators immediately traded Patrick to the Golden Knights for Cody Glass.

It was a bust of a pick for the Flyers.

Clarke, though, said on the podcast appearance that the Flyers scouts didn't want Patrick. They wanted Makar.

"When Hexy came in, he alienated everybody right away," Clarke said. "He shut his door, he locked the doors, he was the boss. Nobody else was part of it. We have the second pick in the draft and end up picking Nolan Patrick. None of our scouts wanted Nolan Patrick. I don't know where Patrick should have gone after his performances in (junior), he's a pretty good player. They wanted Makar. Of course, he went next. Now he's a superstar. Hextall made that choice himself."
Clarke also complained about the Rubtsov pick. And how many Cups did Bobby win as GM?

Uh huh...so, Clarke isn't involved* and yet knows the inner-workings of a draft board. And it's the guy that's gone who was to blame, the guy who built a terrific defense was to blame for not drafting a small Jr. A defenseman (which is obviously such a Flyers pick lolz)...but meanwhile, the guy who is still there and his cronies, they were all good at their jobs. Hextall was fired 15 months after the 2017 draft, it's been five years and just now - now that Makar is gonna win the Norris, Clarke white knights his way in and says, "Well, we were gonna do everything right...but Hextall wanted to do everything wrong, so..."

**** that. **** him. I hope he lives forever.

Not to mention all the skeletons in his closet. His time as GM was a disaster. They should have asked him about his treatment of Lindros.
