Why are most so sure Crosby will retire in 3 years. If there is a player built to play into his forties, it's him.

Like the extension. It also doesn’t matter either because he could be fired next year if Fenway wanted. They have the deep pockets not to mind paying a coach not to coach (not that I ever think he will be fired anytime soon)

In my 40+ years of watching the Pens Sullivan is the best head coach they've had.

Career value, sure...

A lesser coach would've missed the playoffs at some point since Sullivan started given all of the injuries the Pens have dealt with during his tenure. He's earned this.

Sully is a good coach plus there aren't that many good coaches on the market so who would his replacement be ? I would have liked to see Trotz behind the bench but it won't happen.
Still, here have been times when I've screamed 4 letter words or came close to throwing a shoe at the TV for some of his decisions. That being said, I can't say I'm disappointed by his extension. Like I said Sully is a good coach.

That's a pretty dumb take. They've been signing his assistants to extensions for the last two weeks. It's not like they're going to sink extension money into a staff and then fire the head coach. Right before training camp no less. Dummies.

Sure, but "best coach they've ever had" still has to go to Bowman. I mean, the guy's probably the best coach in NHL history. If you'd have said, "best coach who spent at least 3 seasons with the team" I wouldn't be nitpicking.

I was mostly just teasing anyway.
Also, TIL that Dan Bylsma has the best winning percentage of any coach of the Penguins (while with the team) and it isn't even close.

Mike Bossy's brother in law says hello:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pierre_CreamerDespite coaching a Mario Lemieux-led team that finished fourth in goals scored, Creamer's 1987-88 Penguins struggled defensively and finished last in the Patrick Division. He was relieved of his position at season's end; Creamer is currently the only "one year wonder" coach in NHL history to have a winning record
