You're assuming they have a plan?

He’s the third line center to start the year. He either sinks or swims. If he swims, well, there’s our third line center. If he sinks, he’s on a friendly deal and can be moved for a third line center at the deadline or he stays with the team and moves to the wing on the third line or even the top two lines

He’s flexible and he’s cheap. That’s important

The player is more of an issue than the contract. Hes a little bit aimless as a player. Good guy to just sort of exist on the Buffalo's and Calgary's of the world.

If he were put in a position to succeed, that contract is a great deal.

I'm okay with him under $3m for two years.

Yeah, that's where I'm at...I see a useful "out" for this player, so to speak...

I thought he played well with Crosby and Guentzel....

To me, he is a cheap young player that can play with Crosby meaning that we could have higher cap hits in other areas of the team...

But, what exactly is the position to succeed for him?

I think he's a winger in a top six role...I think you can pursue three offensive lines...I think you want one that can be made up of energy wingers and a mature center...McCann can be a part of that...

Which part? He's neither of those things.

McCann can play with more energy if he's assigned to that role and he isn't untalented...pretty smart, good shot...

Definitely talented, I just think he is somewhere in between a scoring line winger and a decent third liner. And so far, not consistently good at either of those things.

Hopefully he just needs consistency in order to be consistent.

He needs to be told what to do...he needs a role so that he can channel his energy appropriately...

So say Sid is flanked by Jake and McCann. Has he ever had two shooters like that in his line before? I can’t recall any

Is that the closest we got? Because that’s far off from Jake and McCann

That's the best I could immediately think of where there was two plus shooters on the line...

Not the wrister...but the slapshot and half slapper that he had were pretty good for me...that may be disqualifying in its own right though...

Maybe Guentzel and McCann would be the answer if it comes to fruition...

Sid flanked by Jake and McCann might work if Sullivan didn't force Jake to the RW

They are going to play McCann at center to start the year. Considering we will undoubtedly have multiple wingers hurt at the trade deadline, my guess is we trade for a 3rd line center and move McCann to wing....where he really should be
