Injury updates from Coach Sullivan:
1. Bjugstad - Still being evaluated, longer-term.
2. Hornqvist - Rejoined team skate today in a full-contact jersey. He won't play tonight, but is getting closer to return.
3. Letang - Skating on his own and making progress, but not joining team practice quite yet.

So HCMS is saying there’s a chance?

Obviously, we're not even to American Thanksgiving yet and a lot can change...but asking around, plus my own viewings, only some in the media think this is going to be a good draft class...scouts don't like it...brutal year for the Americans, imo...after they crushed in 2019, we may have one top-20 pick this year and he's Canadian playing in US territory...
Right now, I'd say there's about 15 truly first round talents poppin around out there...one of which is a goalie.
We have our own 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th.
Our 2nd went to Vegas to take Fleury. Our 7th went to SJ for a 2019 7th.

So you're saying we should trade our first to Vegas for Fleury?

I have a feeling we might not have our 1st by the time the draft rolls around

Exactly. I'm laying the groundwork for us to be ok with that...
Though it's a tough spot because we won't have a pick in the top 80...

Everyone here should already be accustomed to not having a first round pick.

Well think about it this way (and how GMJR probably is too):
We struck gold with Marino. If he continues this path, we got a 1st rounder for a 6th rounder
Poulin and Legare both have had good reviews early in their career.
Lafferty seems like a solid young third or fourth liner
Addison seems to be headed in the right direction
So the cupboard is bare feeling that we had last year has changed fairly quickly in the positive direction

I've been told the cupboard has been empty since about 2010.

Lafferty was a nothing that became something...Marino is a found wallet...for sure...but they're also about to not be prospects by the time the draft rolls around, ya figure...
But yeah, we'd be last or second to last without the emergence of Lafferty and the acquisition of Marino...we may be anyway, but at least there's some leeway...with SJ and TB and some others...

Pens had no prospects a few years ago and then a few guys came up and the rest is history.
Pens do and have had a bottom of the rung prospect system. But those rankings are based on individual players in a vacuum on their individual skill level. The prospects have fit the system running here and plugged in on what they needed to do to make the team successful. If the Pens continually have that, who cares where the system "ranks".

I don't doubt that we're in the bottom five, but we have a core in place, had it for quite some time, so who cares. I'm sure the Oilers have some wonderful prospects coming up. Good luck to them.

Why are they riding Murray so much? Why not give the guy a break for Jarry?
mikey's Thread of Penguin Randomness
They just had three days off.

I think this is the overall feeling I've had so far. Why has Jarry only seen 4 starts? Seems weird.
mikey's Thread of Penguin Randomness
I'm in favor of an increased workload for Jarry, though.

iirc, so far he has only started on the back ends of back-to-backs. Again, I'm i favor of increasing his workload.I think this is the overall feeling I've had so far. Why has Jarry only seen 4 starts? Seems weird.

I'm with you here. I bet we had a bottom 5 system when we produced Rust, Sheary, Guentzel, heck even Murray. Yeah the odds may be better on the higher rated prospects but it seems like our development has been pretty stellar.I don't doubt that we're in the bottom five, but we have a core in place, had it for quite some time, so who cares. Reminds me of the Pirates vs the Cardinals. Cards never really have too highly rated of a farm system, but somehow every year they seem to pluck these guys out of nowhere that step in and do their jobs very well. Pirates, well not so much even with their higher rated prospects.

But just a few years ago during the Pirates "Playoff years," the farm system won accolades and high rankings. Most of these prospects faltered or only found success in other organizations.
