Karlsson is probably going to ask for and get $10+ million...a deal that will start when he is 29. I get how you're framing it, but also get the reality of the situation...it's not as palatable as it was last trade deadline...Actually... a full season of arguably the games best d-man and a chance to re-sign for a guy who's value will never be higher and is on the wrong side of 30.You would trade Kessel for, quite possibly, rental Karlsson...?
I mean, not that this helps Ottawa in any way, of course...but just from a geocentric perspective...
Pens either get and keep a top 3-5 d-man or lose him after 1 year and then have cap space to play with. I like Phil but I don't see him transitioning to a lower line player as his skills decline.
I'd probably do that. Not that I think the Sens would ever consider it.

Agreed. Someone is going to give Karlsson a contract that is too long and too expensive.

Karlsson has 1.5 ankles. I expect his career to end prematurely.

So trade his rights for a 2nd and wash your hands of the situation.
Doughty
Meyers
Ekman-Larson
Methot
McDonaugh
Ellis
Could all be out there... Probably take something like Kessel, Guentz, Sprong, 1st for EK + who knows Pageau and a 2nd or something.
I don't think the Pens would be willing to move the young pieces that would be needed for a potential 1 year guy.

Is that all three or just one of them? For Kessel, Guentzel, Sprong, and a 1st I'd take their whole roster, please.

Considering salary, contract status, age, recency bias and just all around awesomeness...Guentzel has primo trade value right now. Primo.
Of course he’s off the market, and should be. But if we’re including him in hypothetical packages, let’s be real.

My only hope for this SCF is Filip Forsberg, once inexplicably traded from the Caps by George McPhee, pulling off some heroics to sink the Caps.Filip Forsberg and Mattias Ekholm

OMG, this tops the list of the more moronic posts with which I've blessed this board, and that's an achievement.
Who the hell am I thinking of? Why on Earth did I think Forsberg landed on the Knights, especially when I saw him playing for the Perds as recently as a couple of weeks ago?
Oh, FFS, I must be thinking of Schmidt. But how does a sentient being mix him up with Filip Forsberg? Like, and he wasn't traded.
Oh, well. I don't excuse it, I own it, I LOL at it, but I damn well had better stop it.

Sunday morning, Memorial Day weekend: "Dad, can we watch one of the Penguins Greatest Games DVD's?"
That's my girl! Of course we can!
She picked 12/27/00, Mario comeback, BTW. Jagr scored shorthanded with 2 seconds left in the 2nd and brought the house down!

There was no good angle that showed whether it crossed the line before the net came off or not. I would have guessed no but it was close. So should Jagrs goal like 20 seconds in have counted?
