Sid gave him a little slash on the hand that, if I’m remembering correctly, somehow severed a chunk of finger.

Out on Geno.

Sid gets injured, team needs to step up, Malkin cross checks guy in the face and takes a penalty. In the past his good could outweigh that bad by a long shot. Not anymore. We thank you for everything you’ve done and wish you the best in your future endeavors.
He set up the tying goal.
And put his team and an AHL goalie in a terrible position from selfish play. That 10% of a period could have been spent trying to score instead of being purely defensive.

The GMJR era was quite the roller coaster.
This got me thinking: Who would you put on the Penguins' Mt. Rushmore of GMs; Rutherford or Patrick? I keep going back and forth on it

Can we pick four people like the real Mt Rushmore? That makes it's pretty easy. Jack Riley, Craig Patrick, Ray Shero, Jim Rutherford.

Well, maybe replace Riley with Johnston. I guess it's not that easy.

Obvi Sid and Mario are on there, plus one of Geno/Jagr/Rob Brown so there's only room for one GM

Rutherford is a lock
Patrick, despite a lot of messes, is a lock

Riley for putting together the '75 team I guess...

Then...whatever...even Riley is whatever...

Shero bringing in Kunitz and Guerin at/near the 09 trade deadline was huge.

Geno combined regular season and playoffs:

48GP 23G 25A 48PTS

Coming off a significant injury/surgery

Hes still a 1C (playing 2C) and easily a candidate for 80-100 points next year if he plays a full season. Easily.
I think we can all accept he won’t be healthy enough to play in 60 games. Regular season he had 42 points in 41 games. 9PPG and 11PPA. Half his production on special teams which floundered hard in the playoffs. He still puts up points but he also freelances way too much and can’t recover like a younger Geno could. IMO a team can’t take the good with the bad in Geno’s case any longer at the price he’ll want.

The "freelancing" is how he produces and has always produced. If you don't want that, that's fair enough...but saying, "I'm sick of his skill, I just want him to produce" is a tricky paradox...

I did. My bad. Original intent was Mt. Rushmore of Penguins, but one head has to be a GM. Basically, I was having a hard time picking between Rutherford or Patrick as the best GM the Penguins have had.
