Jarry back in net tonight. Little worried how much he’s playing. More of a reason for Hextall to target a decent backup at the deadline IMO

I have been on the backup goalie spot for years now...but let's also look at what our cap allocation and assets can be at the deadline and what makes sense...deadline is 3/21, now obviously, you can make deals before then, but our season ends 3/29.
19 games. 3 back to backs (CBJ, @Buf 3/22-23; Wsh/Nsh 4/9-10; @Det, @Phi 4/23-24)
CDS can handle two of them.
But there's only one day of rest for the vast majority of that schedule. Exceptions: Two days between the home/home with Colorado 4/2, 4/5. Four days between the home/home with Boston 4/16, 4/20. Two days between Edmonton and Carolina home dates 4/26, 4/29.
Jarry has started 29 of 38. He's on pace for 63.
That's high for where you want to be these days. That sort of the ceiling for where you wanted to be 10 years ago. Now, you want to be in the mid-50's if you can be...
So, it'll be interesting to see how our goalie-in-charge views it versus what he can do.
Maybe Jaroslav Halak in Vancouver. Maybe keep tabs on Devan Dubnyk if he goes to the Olympics and see if he'd come on...

Man, Dubnyk is so bad though. Not saying CDS has played well, but does Dub even offer an upgrade there?
Halal is intriguing but he makes a higher cap hit and I think is like 2 games away from having carry over bonus cap hit (unless it only applies to his time in Vancouver).

Yea same. I really just want someone the Pens can turn to if Jarry gets the yips again. Dubnyk could win a dozen or so games. CDS won’t. Hopefully we don’t need to even think about the backup in the playoffs but we can’t risk it again. The Pens should have made a decent run last year and didn’t because of goaltendingI like Dubnyk

He offers an upgrade to the #3 hole...either by push down or himself. He also doesn't cost an asset. And we can do a bonus structure with him. And make him a bury-able cap hit if it fails. We control all of that. Other goalies we don't.Man, Dubnyk is so bad though. Not saying CDS has played well, but does Dub even offer an upgrade there?

I’d like Jake Allen too. But he has a year left after this year for around 2.75. And it’s dependent on Carey Price
