How is Toronto so far up the list? Did they sign Jagr?

Isn't Mark Giordano like... 40?
mikey's Thread of Penguin Randomness
Yeah, that must be it. Fairly old D.

What 20-man projected roster are they using?

I think we're better off being in that chart than the opposite chart:

The team is built for the next 3 seasons so who cares if they are the oldest (not by much) team.

That's where I was going with this. Could be useful to do a 2-year settlementYes, I believe so. Unless he gets a two year deal in arbitration, of course...or, a two-year (or longer) deal as a settlement pre-arbitration...

So what's it going to take to get Tkachuk

I think you probably have to look at the DeBrincat return: They got a top 10 pick, an early 2nd, and a 3rd.
DeBrincat is 24. Cap $6.4 mil; salary $9 mil. Expiring deal, but still an RFA. Regular 40 goal scorer.
Tkachuk is 24. RFA coming off of a $7 mil per deal. Last salary was $9 mil. Coming off of a 40+60=100 season. Plays with skill and snarl.
I don't know that Calgary is interested in liquidating him like Chicago did. I mean, Calgary is in on Kadri and all that...they tried to keep Gaudreau, I think they're trying to move the ball forward. Tough to gauge trading a player after a 100 point season, it doesn't happen much...
I mean, Hossa wasn't in the midst of a 100 point season and he was an expiring UFA...but he returned two first round picks and two 24, 25 year old middle six players...

Call me crazy, but I don't think I would do that...I don't even think that's close to a deal I would make either...

The value is maybe Jake and a 2nd? But to what end for us?
mikey's Thread of Penguin Randomness
We're getting the better, younger player with more years of control and also offloading Petterssons salary in that deal. Are you dumb?Jake, Pettersson, two firsts and two seconds
Also, yes. But unrelated I think
mikey's Thread of Penguin Randomness
Anyway it ain't gonna happen. But if the value is actually just Jake and a 2nd then sign me up. But, we've gotta dump another salary I'd think

Like, that's what I struggle with...let's say that's not fair to ask, right? Because then we get into homers vs non-homers...I also don't get the sense there's a lot of folks here staying up and watching Calgary that often...
Let's ask it a different way. Let's say Tkachuk continues at his $9 mil a year salary. Is Tkachuk $3 million better than Guentzel? Let's start there because that's the 1 for 1 swap, that's the foundation. If you think that Tkachuk is $3 million better than Guentzel and that's all justified, then you have to add assets from our side...
I'm struggling to say that Tkachuk at $9 mil is better than Guentzel at $6 mil. So, when you're talking about four high picks going the other way...that's tough for me.
Obviously, Zucker and Pettersson doesn't move the needle positively in this arena.

For me it's the fact that Jake is a UFA after 2 more seasons and you can sign Tkachuk for 8
mikey's Thread of Penguin Randomness
Theoretically you could sign Jake for 8 more too. But his next contract could very well be 9mil as well

I'm not making the trade unless we have an extension in place
