Nope especially considering mccann is probably one of the better options on the roster to use as a trade piece of they go that way

this is crusher's 16th post in the last fifteen hours, that's good for third on the board behind only @Gaucho and and @mikey
so crusher continues to ride that hot hand. last year if you remember, bob, crusher had only four posts on this date which put him two behind @DigitalGypsy66
so what a year he's having

Talk about rising to the occasion, Bob. Amazing. And look at how shiny the ice is.

McCann’s career FO% is 41%. If we can keep him on a wing I’d be happy

The other day I saw a graphic during an NBCSN broadcast that Chicago has "won two of their last three games"

As a 3C, that amounts to 1-2 more faceoff losses per game than someone who’s good at them.McCann’s career FO% is 41%. If we can keep him on a wing I’d be happy

Not all faceoffs are created equally...
DZ faceoffs are much more important than NZ faceoffs, for instance. So it's easy to write off macro numbers, but that's not fair to the game that's actually being played...
DZ faceoffs:
Crosby: 57.7%
McCann: 37.5%
A lost DZ faceoff is almost certainly a shot, if not a scoring chance against...you don't want to **** around with that (see: 4.4 seconds left in game 7 of the 2009 Stanley Cup Final)...
The discrepancy becomes larger when the home coach can dictate the matchup...
Crosby 52.7%
McCann 31.2%

It’s still a macro premise. Because you’re weighing two lost faceoffs a game (which may or may not be in the DZ) against 15 minutes of ES productivity. It’s a high-level comparison not a situational one.Not all faceoffs are created equally...

Better to have a good player center the line than call up Joe Vitale and tank the ES minutes that follow the faceoff.

Are we limited to choosing between a guy who can't win a key draw and a guy who can but sucks everywhere else?

It's better, sure. But part of good team building is being able to accommodate for as many of these scenarios as possible...
For instance, Lafferty is terrific in the DZ on his strong side...useful to have him at wing, but really useful in the right dot...

Swap in a 4C on a critical DZ draw then - and also account for wrong handedness? It's better, sure. But part of good team building is being able to accommodate for as many of these scenarios as possible...

My only point is that it’s a fools errand to mush around your lineup for the purposes of faceoff wins. Dress the best team, and if you lose a few extra draws, fine. Enjoy the benefits that outweigh that in the meantime.

You can also protect mccanns weakness by limiting d zone starts in key moments, which you're going to do anyway... or put a guy who can win a draw on the other dot on his wing in the 3rd period.
Idk. He's never had a clearly defined role here and probably never will. His entire career here has been either filling in for injury in the top 6 or playing on a jumbled meaningless line of whoever is left...

That's the one thing I don't like about Sullivan, his commitment to ZAR-Blueger-Tanev. Hey, it's a great line but you don't waste a talent like McCann so you can keep them together every game. Put one of those wingers with mccann for a while to establish some continuity and dwindle his minutes in the 3rd if we're up to deploy the shutdown line.

I also just don't think McCann is very good in the middle of the rink...it's a lot of ice for him to manage...looks more comfortable as a winger for me..

Also I think Blueger and Tanev have immense chemistry. I wouldn’t want to bump Bluegs to the fourth line for McCann.

I am amazed that Matheson/Ceci have actually evolved into a pretty darn good 2nd pairing. Matheson's goal contribution last night was a thing of beauty, and he made a great defensive play just prior to initiate the breakout.

I got some ‘16 vibes goin’, tbh. There’s a power vacuum happening. If you look around and no one seems scary - that means you’re the scary one.
