I don't think I'd want him even if they retained 90% of his salary.

His remaining cap space is roughly 1.5 million, the Pens cap space is roughly 1,5 million, so it seems doable even without $$$ going the other way.Not sure if that's even possible because math.

Plek has a NTC, could be related to that. Or roster space/cap space that needs to be cleared via a demotion that requires waivers (which wouldn't clear til noon tomorrow)...

Plek would be a really good add for us...perfect third line center for this team I'd think...very good defensively, good playmaker...smart...

Oh, indeed

Also: no one is giving him another $6M deal, so good opportunity to sign him at a lower rate.

I have a pretty in tune Montreal source that I talked to yesterday...he did say the Pens were in on Plek, the Habs were having a debate internally about what they wanted to do with him and what he wanted to do, these talks have been ongoing...I asked what kind of value were we talking about and this is speculatory as neither of us have that level of insider knowledge either...but Plek at 50% might be worth a 2nd round pick and J.S. Dea give or take...
Take it for what it's worth...
I'm not under the impression that a deal is done...but I don't think it's unreasonable to think that the foundation for a deal has been laid and both GMs are just seeing if they can do better (GMJR getting a better deal elsewhere, player or value wise; the Habs seeing if they can unload a contract with him Plek or what have you)...

McGuire says market suggests Pleky is probably worth a 4th to a 7th RDer.

So there's probably some truth to that French dude's post, but more that there's smoke as opposed to a done deal.

I mean, it's like anything else this time of year...it's easy to sit there and piece things together and call it a rumor...
Plekanec can't be worth that little...I mean, what kind of rentals are going for 5th round picks? Guys that are like healthy scratches and what not...not 3Cs...that's ridiculous, even if I have to eat those words later, that's ridiculous...

So you feel he has enough left in the tank to slot into the 3C role and play with Phil over Sheahan?I mean, it's like anything else this time of year...it's easy to sit there and piece things together and call it a rumor...

regarding the standings and playoff seeding, my only desire is a first round matchup v the flyers

We’ve gone through this before and there are timid fans, who don’t want it. I want to see the pens crush them every spring.regarding the standings and playoff seeding, my only desire is a first round matchup v the flyers

I would love to oust the Canadian hick and his compadres in the first round.

There seems to be a lot of Russian French trolls on twitter discussing Plekanec.

IIRC Plekanec is a LHS. Not sure if Sully would want that come playoff time. He would probably want Rowney in the lineup then

Sullivan is not sitting a Plekanec for Rowney. Plekanec would play with his stick upside down before Rowney would take his ice time

No, no. I’m saying Plekanec would play center and Rowney would stay in the lineup at wing for face offs. So someone else would get pushed out of the lineup.Sullivan is not sitting a Plekanec for Rowney. Plekanec would play with his stick upside down before Rowney would take his ice time

Rowney has topped 10 minutes once since returning from injury. Most nights he barely plays and 99% of his ice time is on the PK. If we don’t add wing depth I could see him playing wing until Kuhnhackl comes back or playing over Reaves depending on the matchup, but there’s no way he stays in the lineup at center if we acquire another center.

Maybe I’m misremembering, but I swear there was a report that Sullivan doesn’t want 4 LH centers without having a right hander who can take face offs in the lineup.

No one wants 4 LHS centers...
Rowney can play RW and take Reaves' spot in the lineup if necessary...or, given that we didn't acquire Plekanec yet, we could still go after a RHS center...

I’d rather see Reaves than Kuhn in the lineup.
Limited minutes for the line anyway, but taking the only real banger out of a playoff lineup doesn’t suit my sensibilities. I’m also a caveman, so factor that in.
