This. They just don't look good right now. I know it's early, and that they should pick things up, but at the moment they look like poo. It's the old "eye test". Arguably, they've only looked passable in the Vegas game, and even then it was clear DeSmith had to bail them out a few times.

I wish it was 1993 where they won all the games for like the first quarter of the season then went on to....oh.

And it's ok to look like crap now. That doesn't mean they should do something crazy like trade Maatta or trade Maatta or even trade Maatta.This. They just don't look good right now. Not panicked - as we don't have a top-4 d-man and we're playing our 3rd string goalie.
But at 2-1-2, we're on a 98 point pace. That's a roll of the dice on the playoffs based on last year.
2 win in 5, not a good look for winning a series...
Lots to work out early on...

Oh, absolutely. I've been an ardent supporter of Maatta from day one, and trading him to acquire a RHS like I have seen suggested elsewhere is just absurd. And it's ok to look like crap now. At least we stay level headed over here. The pens section of HF wants to trade Kessel and is saying Sid is done.

If you took LGP, dunked it in a toilet, and then lit it on fire, you'd have HF.

Troughs. And by troughs, I mean streets.

I'd entertain firing Sullivan.

Obviously SSS, but it does seem like the tenure of coaches here tends to get progressively worse. I'm more inclined to think that things will at best stagnate here with Sullivan, as opposed to this team returning back to 2016 form.

He's put on some weight. Fat and happy. Doesn't want it enough anymore. Isn't hungry. Why?

Fat and happy, and isn’t hungry? You make no sense, dodint.

Because he's full. How far do you want to take this metaphor?

lol, from Friedman’s 31 Thoughts:
10. Justin Schultz is expected to return this season, but remember that Penguins GM Jim Rutherford likes to make his moves early. Not sure how confident they are in Olli Maatta, so he’s probably in the defenceman market anyway.

That would be a shame...but this is the first thing that gives me pause. Including Bob McKenzie, Friedman may be the most connected man in the biz right now...
They might already have too many of Maatta, but my mind immediately goes to Carolina...they owe Justin Faulk $12 million total this season and next, but with a smaller cap hit, he has a modified no-trade, he had a dreadful season last year, but he's another Letang type...
There's a couple connections here: played with Bryan Rust at the USNTDP, Brian Dumoulin at the World Juniors, with Jack Johnson in international tournaments and of course, Jim Rutherford took him with a top 50 pick in 2010...
There's also the Recchi to Carolina connection, he still has a lot of friends there...
