So even if they were able to sign Jarry at 5-6mm per year - someone is going to have to move - https://www.capfriendly.com/teams/penguins
Petry at $6.25 is yucko.

ehh we gain a mil with the decrease of JMFJ buyout hit, the cap surely will increase.. Dumo will be gone or back at like 2 mil, I think they'll be okay. I'd like to see Zucker back now, never thought I'd say it

Zucker ain't coming back. Makes 5.5 now, someone will do 3 or 4 years at closer to that number than they should.
mikey's Thread of Penguin Randomness
well that's 10 mil in cap space with Zucker, Dumo and JMFJ dropping off - let's have some fun. $3 mil raise to Jarry, 7 to play with before the cap increase. Who's out there?
mikey's Thread of Penguin Randomness
They're gonna need another top pairing defender, I think. I don't think Petry/Smith can handle are ready, or position compatible.
mikey's Thread of Penguin Randomness
I'd bet they bring Dumo back at a lesser number

They could probably save another million by replacing blueger or paying him what he earned this year
mikey's Thread of Penguin Randomness
sounds like we're making room for Patty Kane

Making room for the return of Jordan Staal as the third line center.

I'd like Bertuzzi - even if he's hit the injury train this year.

Have you evaluated the timing of his injuries
mikey's Thread of Penguin Randomness
well from my fantasy hockey perspective, he broke his wrist and then did it again like a game later, he's played I think 16 or 17 games all year lol.

Ryan Graves stinks. Gavrikov would be a great Dumo replacement...

Does he get hurt at the worst times, though?I'd like Bertuzzi - even if he's hit the injury train this year.

He still an anti-vaxxer...?

Yeah cap considerations aside, I like this. Motte averages more than 200 hits over 82 games. He can't win draws but he's a PK guy who can crash the net and score a little. Talbot hasn't been good in a few seasons, but sometimes a change of scenery does a veteran a lot of good. I mean, if Talbot was in goal last spring rather than Domingue, the Pens win that series without question. It's not for nothing that Talbot has at least proven to be durable in the past. He's terrible, but at least he belonged in the NHL at some point...I wonder if there'd be any interest in this...
Pens get: Cam Talbot (50%, ~$1.8 mil, UFA) and Tyler Motte ($1.3 mil)
Sens get: Casey DeSmith and a 3rd
We swap goalies at even cap basically. They take the extra year of DeSmith. We pick up a really good bottom six player for a 3rd, the Sens don't have a 3rd.
I get the sense that Talbot has negative value, that negative value is probably roughly similar to that of DeSmith. Motte is probably worth a 4th, so getting a 3rd accounts for the extra year of DeSmith. We could probably back that pick off to a 4th if we only ask Ottawa to take 25-33%, but then we're really getting up against our deadline banked cap I think...

Talbot was good last season... and really for the last several. Of course, those were with Calgary and Minny who defend well.

Well he's never had a playoff series to ruin, so that's still on the table.Does he get hurt at the worst times, though?I'd like Bertuzzi - even if he's hit the injury train this year.

He did win playoff MVP in the AHL in his last playoff appearance to date...

Madden with the trading Jake would cause a major shake-up. I'd be really interested in the return there, would HATE to see him leave (and would have chosen him over Rust had it come to that), but I'd love to see what value comes back.

Well...that'd be silly. But...here's a liquidation deal...
Alex DeBrincat returned the 7th overall pick, 39th overall, a 4th in 2023.
That's probably about where we're at.
Looking back to a few years ago using the transitive property...
So, that would have returned, say, Jacob Trouba. It would have returned Mark Stone more or less. It would have returned Matt Duchene...
But if you're looking to return multiple (lesser) pieces that play on the roster, that gets complicated...
