I think that's Doug McLeod? He was the radio guy with Stan for a few seasons in the 90s.

It is McLeod. Matt McConnell, current Coyotes pbp announcer, took over from him starting that fall.

Side note after I mentioned on the aol Penguins board shortly after he started that I thought he was doing a good job, McConnell sent me a nice note thanking me. Nice guy.

The 2001 team had more of a playing-with-house-money vibe than the 96 team.

I was more pissed we lost to the Flyers in 2000. Beat them in their building the first two games then lose the next two at home in overtime, including the 5OT game. Never heard my uncles drop more F bombs than they did in that 5 OT game.

Yet none of that beats the devastation I felt from the 93 team.

I never thought they would beat the Avs so 96 never bothers me that much.

Roy would have been the difference maker IMO.

Still IF that series happened it would have featured the top 5 scorers in the entire league and 6 of the top 15. To say that Pens team was an offensive juggernaut is an understatement.

Man, I'd have loved to see the 96 team face Colorado. It's not like Vanbiesbrouk was a pedestrian goalie that year, either.

Even I would rather have Orpik on the team than Chris Tamer.

Tamer would do that D skating backwards thing as a guy skated in carrying the puck, but he would keep going backwards and would often literally skate backwards right into the goalie, or if off center he would skate back past the goal line. ZERO awareness of where he was on the ice.

Chris Tamer played like 90% of his games with our horrendous post-90's Cups defense and then the expansion Thrashers...better management and no expansion and he plays ~100 games in the league at most...
