That felt like a yearly rumor for a while. In all seriousness, Malkin probably means that Letang will be traded soon.

The Penguins have been blessed for almost 40 years with at least one generational talent on their roster, and usually two plus good supporting players. Most franchises might not have one in that time period; we've had four.

Whatever our waiver number is, he doesn’t make it to us, right?*drool*
And if by some miracle he does, we claim him, right?

Considering Eric Comrie and Anton Forsberg got claimed, that would suggest that every goalie gets claimed...especially Ned.
I'm unconvinced we're in the business of making savvy roster moves right now...so, no, I don't think we'd claim him...

I don't know how CDS has been in camp, I don't know what assurances we've given him and all that...I think if we claim him, we gotta keep him up...but man, if we didn't make a real strong promise to CDS, I'd claim this player and ride him as our backup this year...I really would. I don't even know what's going on right now, I'm not in NHL mode yet to be honest...but this could be a legit goalie for the future for us (just ignoring Jarry for a second, who I love), but this is worth a stab...even if it hurts CDS's feelings, I'm just not sure he's much more than Zatkoff...

Loved him in that WJC a few years back. Havent followed since, but would endorse on that alone.

I’ve seen him play roughly 70 games in person. This is a NHL goalie. Period.

Are you fold on about claiming Nedeljkovic? Or is this a ... "joke" that lacks the funny?

No clue what Jim's question is...but I wanted to legit claim Balcers and Nedeljkovic...I think they both make our roster better right now...San Jose beat us to Balcers...we'll ignore Ned I'm sure...
They're probably trying to sneak him down for more development time...that happens a lot, especially with goalies...
Also, maybe he asked out and no one was willing to give an asset...or maybe they just love Anton Forsberg, and Ned is the sacrifice to make it work...

Forsberg was more consistent last season. Ned was a little bit more up and down than usual. Forsberg was really really goodNo clue what Jim's question is...but I wanted to legit claim Balcers and Nedeljkovic...I think they both make our roster better right now...San Jose beat us to Balcers...we'll ignore Ned I'm sure...

It was... are you folks on about claiming Nedeljkovic? Meaning why are you talking about claiming a goalie that is not better than DeSmith? I know there were hopes for him in Carolina, but he fizzled. I wouldn't use it yet, but I also wouldn't argue against the term "bust".No clue what Jim's question is...but I wanted to legit claim Balcers and Nedeljkovic...I think they both make our roster better right now...San Jose beat us to Balcers...we'll ignore Ned I'm sure...

Forsberg is no good, yet Carolina was like "let's go with Forsberg instead."
The second line was because I thought that maybe you were all doing a wink-wink style, "oh let's get that guy" shtick, but doing it poorly.

No, meow and I don't do things poorly.
I'd take Ned 10/10 over DeSmith, even if DeSmith was 6 (?) years younger or whatever...it's a lay-up for me. You're a little hesitant on the word bust, but defending a "never was"...
CDS is a replacement level player with no upside. Ned represents a similar quality or better at the moment, with upside. And it saves you a few pennies in the process if you were to somehow jettison DeSmith. Or, even moving DeSmith to the taxi squad and the burial hit, I believe combined with Ned's contract is still a small cap savings...
Cheaper, RFA status, I think he'd be expansion eligible, better now for me, certainly higher upside...and there's a Mike Vellucci connection there from his time in junior...there's a semi-Jim Rutherford connection there, as he was a part of that group that drafted him in the very first close group of goalies in 2014 (none went in the 1st round, it's very likely Carolina had him as their #1 goalie on their board...goalies got taken at 34, 36, 37*, and 39)
It's a pretty easy play to make to improve upon a roster of questionable depth at all positions...on the second oldest roster in the league...
