It always interests (or annoys) me to see how HCMS uses players, especially young guys. Lafferty obviously has the full faith and confidence of this coaching staff, averaging 14 and change per night, seeing the most PK time among forwards, and being used on the PK during OT. On the other hand, Adam Johnson has played a grand total of 52:34 across 10 games in his NHL career and his high watermark was 7:36 against the Wild over the weekend. Sully just seems to have zero use for him beyond plugging a hole in the lineup.
Similarly, Marino is getting a ton of PK time, whereas Pettersson oddly gets very little and Riikola has never been trusted in that capacity.

Sid will do his part, of that I have no doubts.
In any event the kids are giving this team some much needed energy, and Crosby is carrying the team in general. Not sure how long that can last, but it's fun.
Agree with those saying it may be time to jettison Bjugstad - Many made it seem like McCann was the critical component of that trade even when it first happened anyway. If the team is (hopefully) going to go back to the identity they had in 16 he doesnt fit the mold at all. But he is serviceable I guess, and having depth is great as we're seeing now.
As long as Tanev can Tanev while Sid/Geno still have the window open I dont care about the last couple years of his deal. I almost beginning to think this drawing penalties thing is .. i dont know, becoming a bit much or perhaps he's flopping a little bit here and there? Drawing whats up to 7 penalties this year? through the first 8 games seems to be on a wild pace. I mean I love all the PP opportunities but I feel like a few hes drawn were not really penalties..

I don't know why Blandisi was out there for the final minute of last night's game, but he should not have been.

I usually go with a physical Hagelin.Still not sure on the contract length but BAH GAWD Tanev has been everything advertised and a bit more. He’s like a faster but less skilled and younger Hörnqvist in terms of knowing what you’re getting every time he takes a shift.

Bjugstad, Gudbranson, and a 4th rounder for JG Pageau....do it GMJR!!
Edit: (probably would never happen since OTT would be adding salary)

At this point I don’t think the Pens NEED to bring back an NHL player but prospects and picks would probably work.Bjugstad, Gudbranson, and a 4th rounder for JG Pageau....do it GMJR!!

agree but perhaps not for the same reasons as youThe thing about Jugs is that he's **** terrible.
it seems to me dude can play but for whatever reason he's not all that interested in the try hard part of the equation
he's the guy i believe borque is referring to post-game whenever the latter comments on the lack of effort/commitment

That's primarily the reason I dislike him. I think there's a ton of size and some decent skill being wasted in a dude who really doesn't give a ****.

I don’t think it is that Jugs doesn’t care. I think he does care and he does compete. I think the issue is that he is a poosay

Couple of quick points...
Petterson balance/strength issues. Usage after special teams situation. Lowers PK exposure.
Johnson (take your choice) surpassed on depth chart by faster, more effective player(s).
Jugs has a frustrating injury history. Like Beau Bennett, he has geared it down for self-preservation. But in his role especially, this makes him largely ineffective. Should be a winger. But lack of a RHS center makes that tough...

I'm quite interested to see how the chemistry gets wrecked if it does when Galchenyuk and Malkin come back. Feels like the team is playing the way Sullivan wants them to play.

Key is keeping the right players in the lineup. Can safely lose fringe NHLers like Johnson (take your choice) and Blugers and Blandisi...or if you're looking to keep the hunger of those worker bees, you can safely eject Kahun from the lineup in order to insert skill back in...as Kahun neither moves the needle, nor works hard. The kids trying to keep that sweet NHL per diem will keep working for it...
Scotty Bowman always kept extras around that were hungry...challenge you in practice, challenge you for roster spots, challenge you for ice time...
We have 16 forwards and 10 defensemen hanging around the facility right now, right? That's a lot of players...18 of them dress. Players can do the math, they know what's at stake...

Johnson and Blandisi would be my first two choices to send down, if needed.

Both Johnsons...

Sitting Blandisi just to keep Geno happy seems risky, though.
