Agozzino’s 1:44 of ice time last night must have been a disaster.

Re this Lafferty kid
When I moved to California, there was no hockey rink in Blair County. So they produced an NHL player basically in one generation.

Anyone know why the keep showing the weird cheese Aldi's commercial randomly throughout the games (during play/non-commercial break times)?

my rule is expect a company that thought potash and mear-zee were good ideas to make glaring errors from time to time

There's some depth there, as we are seeing now. Given that the franchise is in "win now" mode, that's all they need.Lafferty, Samuel is not good and this speaks to the deplorable condition of the Pens farm system
Marino is legit, and his emergence may allow Rutherford to trade a defenseman (EG, most likely) for another bottom 6/depth forward.

See, I don't think we need a depth piece...I think we have nothing but depth, to whatever degree...we need a needle-mover...regardless of the line they play on...you gotta find a way to get that, otherwise, there isn't a lot of reason to make a trade (minus, I guess, a d-man salary shed move...fine). But you mentioned getting a roster piece...it doesn't have to be a star, it can be like what Jordan Staal was for us, a third liner, but a guy that moves the needle a bit...
Outside of 87, 71, 59 and 19, no one can really push the pace...Hornqvist at his best, can...I wonder if Tanev kind of can tilt the ice in his own way...but the rest of the players are just trying not to get in the way...
Think J.G. Pageau or someone like this...

I'd be surprised...he plays a pretty "low residue" game...either he scores or he doesn't...he won't impact the game in any other way, not even just hits or defense or whatever...he's just not a pertinent forechecker, he's not really a puck carrier, etc. maybe we can coach him up, maybe playing with Geno makes life amazing for him...but his career to date gives me hesitation that he'll have more of an impact than even Jared McCann, even though, he may well out score him handily...

Bjustad should be that guy based on talent.... but I think he’s just a slug.I'd be surprised...he plays a pretty "low residue" game...either he scores or he doesn't...he won't impact the game in any other way, not even just hits or defense or whatever...he's just not a pertinent forechecker, he's not really a puck carrier, etc. maybe we can coach him up, maybe playing with Geno makes life amazing for him...but his career to date gives me hesitation that he'll have more of an impact than even Jared McCann, even though, he may well out score him handily...
If I understand what you are saying about a needle mover, I think a Kyle Turris type of player (circa 2015). That type of guy who can do a little something with the third line

Yes you are. And Bjugstad sucks...or, more accurately, he's a completely anonymous player...

I don't think he's awful in either end, but he has zero transition game, and he'd be one of the last people I'd want skating with the puck.

Pageau would be a great addition to this team. Another great penalty killer who's tough to play against.. wins tons of draws. A Rust-Pageau-Tanev line would be intriguing.
So we'd be talking about moving some combination of a defenseman, Bjugstad, picks, etc etc.. if they can land that type of player, I'd be in favor.

A player like Jugs needs to either score a lot (which he doesn't) or hit a lot (which he doesn't). He's just invisible too many nights. For a big man, he's not disruptive enough. It's a shame, because if he had a fraction of #72's intensity, he'd be a force.Yes you are. And Bjugstad sucks...or, more accurately, he's a completely anonymous player...

I’d love if we could move him and one of the expensive 3rd pairing guys for someone with a big of scoring ability for the third line. Not sure if it could happen but I would love it.
If we could keep Rust AND shed salary, that would be the tits

Have to be careful with handedness. Jugs is the only RHS center that's NHL capable right now. So you gotta watch that, especially with team's able to pick where faceoffs are on power plays and after icings...if you end up in a situation where McCann and Bjugstad are out together, you mitigate a lot of risk on what is 100% of the time a defensive zone draw. Both have plenty of center experience as NHLers.
I think the Penguins are kind of playing this roster like I do fantasy football...I get 1 QB, 1 TE, 1 defense...the rest is all RBs and WRs and see which ones emerge as useful and jettison the rest...they emerge by the time the bye weeks start to roll around and then I can replace depth as needed at the other positions, which are much less valuable (as they generally only play once or twice all season and are not talented)...
We've played 23 skaters already...rostered players Riikola, Ruhwedel and Rust have not played yet...which means we've had NHL eyes on 26 players (well, Rust got hurt but whatever) and we're at Canadian Thanksgiving...on spot check, no one else is really up that high, I saw San Jose but they signed a guy just to get to about that number and they've had a rash of injuries...any way, the point is, we're getting some sneak previews here at the NHL level and then you try to thin out the herd as best you can...because somewhere, someone, on someone's else team may get hurt for a change and we'll be right there with a muffin basket made up of Dominik Kahun and Jack Johnson and a coupon for one (1) free hug...
