mikey's Thread of Penguin Randomness

I don't like the Kunitz rumor. It'll take one bad game from Sid to have him clamoring for Kunitz back on his wing.
I'm praying that its just Mackey being a hack. Kunitz doesn't fit anywhere in this lineup and yes, the Sid factor is always going to be an issue. The unintelligent mouth breathers that make up the social media using faction of this fanbase seems to have had their pants tighten or moisten at the mere mention of Kunitz's name. Seeing a lot of jamokes stating that he would be an upgrade over Kuhnhackl, even on the PK. In 9ish seasons with the Penguins Kunitz totaled 158:17 of PK time and was used sparingly by the Bolts in that role to just get his old, decrepit ass some ass time. In Kuhnhackl's illustrious 168 game NHL career he's totaled 289:46 of PK time. These people are so stupid they should manage the Pirates.

One of the other hack media members was floating the Penguins interest in Jeff Skinner. I like Skinner and would love to add him to this lineup, but I don't see how that contract fits nor do I really want to think what it would take to acquire him.

This is the one time that thoughts and prayers are the appropriate solution.

We have pursued Jeff Skinner and other players that can play LW via trade.

The issues with Skinner are; you'd need to free up space for him this upcoming season, and he is an UFA after so he'll likely be looking at a 6.5 million per year contract. Need to reserve money for Jake.

IF they found a way to make the trade happen and free up the salary space for this season, you're likely looking at:

Guentzel-Sid-Hornqvist
Skinner-Geno-Kessel
Hagelin-Brassard-Sprong

I think after a season of that, if Sprong proves himself to be capable, then they'd have a legitimate reason to look at moving Kessel and would go with:

Guentzel-Sid-Hornqvist
Skinner-Geno-Sprong
Vomit-Vomit-Vomit

The Pittsburgh Penguins have agreed to terms with forwards Dominik Simon and Daniel Sprong on two-year contracts, it was announced today by executive vice president and general manager Jim Rutherford.

Both contracts will run through the 2019-20 season, and each contains an average annual value of $750,000.

Defenseman Kevin Czuczman was re-signed to a one-year, two-way contract that contains an average annual value of $650,000 at the NHL level.

Frankie Corrado isn't expected to receive a qualifying offer from #pens before today's 5 p.m. ET deadline. He's on the road to recovery from a February knee injury and will become a UFA.
RIP Uncle June.

I'm assuming one-way deals for Simon and Sprong as they're both now waiver eligible (despite dumbass Madden insisting that Sprong will start the season in WBS).

One-way/two-way deals don't determine if a player is waiver eligible or not. It is age/time played that determines waiver eligibility.

Sabres aren't going to qualify Scott Wilson.

"I could easily slap together a **** article about how the Pens might want to sign Scott Wilson because they KNOW him and WON with him!"

Sheahan has arbitration eligibility, so the Pens are probably trying to avoid that...I expect we'll retain him (or try) anyway...

I guess Simon has ousted Kuhnhackl...

Seems like a lot of teams (more than most years?) opted not to qualify a lot of RFAs.
