He also had Smythe worthy runs in 2008 and 2017...so, if he cost us a Cup, he gave us a chance in '08 and laid the groundwork in '17 to br fair...

He wasn’t even in our top 10 in 17, let alone the Smythe conversation

Even the board description hasn’t moved on from Fleury.
The message board was designed as a Pittsburgh Penguins forum where members discuss players from legends like Mario Lemieux, Jaromir Jagr, Tom Barrasso, Paul Coffey, and Jean Pronovost to current super stars like Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Kris Letang, Phil Kessel, and Marc-Andre Fleury to prospects like Daniel Sprong, Oskar Sundqvist, Matt Murray, and Tristan Jarry.
Man that needs updated.

Flower won the Vezina last year and our backup stinks and our starter is a bit of a question mark in the postseason. It's not rocket science why we'd want him

He was the favorite for Conn Smythe until he got yanked mid East Final.

He got yanked because HCMS had a hardon for Murray.
Had zero to do with Fleury’s performance.

I mean...MAF turned in a 924 sv % and a 2.56 GAA in 15 games. Good numbers, but hardly the type of stuff you usually associate with conn smyth performances (rest of team performance notwithstanding up to that point, yeah, obviously a factor). Yeah, we don't get by Washington without him, but same goes for Murray and the season prior, who ended up a footnote for smyth chatter. Murray also finished 2017 with a 937 sv % and a 1.70 GAA in 11 games for comparison, so, not hard to see why Fleury had a mad short leash that year.

Also, Matt Murray was the clear cut better goalie at the time. Significantly and without debate.

Sports bros, it wasn't that long ago...viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1942

It's tough to get away with this Fleury wasn't amazing stance for that run...he had a tough game and got pulled and Murray came in and played really well, but Fleury was insane in that playoff...

Wonder what could have been if the Murray boner deflated as fast as the Fleury semi. Maybe another cup.
