Not as much as Bylsma was.Craig Adams in his prime (if he had one) was very useful
I was a fan to the end.

Recommending is different than requiring IMO. Though I'm sure requiring isn't far off.And here we go

That goal…woof. He had 1 moment there. And the other’s credit goes to Theodore or Varlamov or whomever that was.In the 09 run, Adam’s had two moments that I would put in the top 10 of important moments during that run. He helped smother the game 7 scrum after Fleury did his damn thing. He also scored like 17 seconds after we scored a PPG against the Caps in that game 7 that we put a touchdown up.
But 09 Adams was good. He actually played physical too, which he stopped the moment fleury robbed Lidstrom.

Heard rumblings this was going to happen. Andy is a really good dude. Very level headed.

Based on the head shot, he also oozes charisma.

Now we'll get to see if the issue was with the goalie or the coaching. Good.

What goes into being a goalie coach? Other than proper form and technique which you would think most goalies have down by the time they hit the NHL at this point.

I mean…it’s possible Murray was coached to be the mentally softest guy in the league, to have the reflexes of a heroin addict and never to move his left arm until the puck left the zone.Goalies.Now we'll get to see if the issue was with the goalie or the coaching. Good.

I just think, you see the results with Bales as the coach, then Buckley is brought in and things tank for your 2 Cup goalie (granted, there were also some external factors involved). A new guy comes in and he seems to have the same issues with the same coach.
I dont think Buckley coached them to be mental, but at the same time, it's clear whatever he was doing just wasn't working.

Buckley probably ticked the box in a lot of ways, but wasn’t talented at boosting the mental game and empowering these guys in big moments.
But Murray’s reflexes were always going to doom him. If he wasn’t a big body, I doubt he would have ever seen NHL ice.

I firmly believe that Murray hasn't been the same since his father passed. that **** can mess anybody up. my father passed at 93 in his sleep. I wouldn't say it was expected but obviously we knew it was coming. I can't imagine losing your dad unexpectedly at such a young age.I just think, you see the results with Bales as the coach, then Buckley is brought in and things tank for your 2 Cup goalie (granted, there were also some external factors involved). Seems like he had pre-existing fragility.
This feels icky to write about though. He’s a guy who will be remembered for having one of the most disappointing careers of our generation for a goalie. It’s not like he tried to be terrible, and has a bit of a broken brain. I hope he can be happy, if he’s not today.

Two major things: mental side and micro adjustmentsWhat goes into being a goalie coach? Other than proper form and technique which you would think most goalies have down by the time they hit the NHL at this point.
The mental side is obviously huge. Some guys are better than others at this. And the really good ones quickly get promoted out of goalie coach; see Sean Burke. It’s all about leveling things. Keeps things in perspective. Trust the process. Enter cliche here. And here. But it’s also having people skills. And communication skills. Because the coaching here is a lot more back and forth than a head coach/ass coach. What did you see here? What did you see there?
The micro adjustments piece is different. This is actual changes to a goalies style and set-up. I say micro because it really is an inch here and an inch there. Turn this foot a small amount when in this post position to make a better angle off your leg pad. Hold your stick two inches closer to your body to help get your torso a little more vertical.
It’s more of a buddy buddy system than the rest of the coaching staff.

I have an unhealthy and irrational amount of angst towards game 3 against the Caps in ‘18. The series of Wilson events and also Murray letting up that garbage glove side goal against Niskanen that A) negated an all time goal from Jake-to-Sid and B) let the caps back in the game.I'll still remember him as having helped us win back to back Cups.
If Murray saves that shot, I think we win. Then Wilson gets suspended and we win the series and the Caps never win a cup. That game’s gonna haunt me to my grave.
I did say it was irrational. Keep that in mind.

Yep. Even if he bombs out of the league, he made a heck of a lot of money and won not one but two Stanley Cups. I imagine there are a few thousand goaltenders who would think that's a damned fine career, albeit one that was short-lived.I'll still remember him as having helped us win back to back Cups.

ZAR's hearing is 8/23 (second to last day). Both sides can settle before then, of course...
