As fans, why would we care which cities are the hubs?

Time zone is the only thing I can think of.

As someone that works downtown I don't want Pittsburgh as a hub for a number of reasons. Mostly selfish ones.

I believe dodint works in town so I'm guessing he doesn't want increased activity in the city?

I just talked to an NHL staffer this morning and he said, "You have no idea what's going in to this..."

They're talking about buying out several restaurants and bars and keeping them just for the people associated with the league, keeping the wait staff in hotels so that they don't go in and out...all the way to a Biodome type of scenario...

I bought a short on DraftKings stock this morning...based on some of the scuttlebutt I've heard, I'm less optimistic than I was about them being able to pull this off successfully...

So they're really going for the bubble situation. That's awesome and probably the only way to have a shot at this actually working. Maybe they should call up Djokovic and ask him what not to do.

That's not gonna work for TV revenue.

They could play 5pm Vegas time and be prime time on the east coast. I don't think time zones are a big issue.

The need to uphold time zones strictly is only relevant for local fans. No fans. You think a Pittsburgh/Montreal game, even in Vancouver, Edmonton, or Vegas is gonna start at 10:30 ET...? Nah...this is a TV event. Putting it on for night owls doesn't make any sense...

Sorry, I thought you were implying that they'd be fine playing at 7-7:30pm in Vegas time.

Depending how many teams are at each facility, I could see a 10am, 2pm, 6pm, 10pm type of schedule. Like a squirt tourney

Come on, mikey. Life isn't about these rusty trombone, and dirty sanchez. It's not about rainbow showers and camel-toe slide, and your Cincinnati bowtie, your Arabian goggles....

Sounds like there will be a lot of recording going on at my house. I'll be watching hockey in the evening.

TIL the "Boys Of Winter" song does not have a title.
Rooney had access to Needle Drop Co., an agency that specialized in providing instrumental music for television and radio advertising campaigns. The original compositions were available for rent, and Rooney entered a recording studio where he could listen to available tracks.

“We used that music for everything, from boxing events at the arena to the teams,” Rooney said. “Basically, I listened to so much of that music that I would bank the ones I liked. And there was this one song I really liked for the Maulers.”

Rooney used it only once for the USFL team.

“It was the Maulers’ song first,” Steigerwald said. “I wonder how many people know that or even remember the Maulers.”

There remains a mystery to the song’s official title. Rooney never needed to know the songs’ titles because the music was rented and logged by numbers. The “Boys of Winter” commercials were a hit, and the song became synonymous with their variations over the next several years.

Most fans refer to it as “Boys of Winter,” but Steigerwald said the team never assigned that name to the music.

But Rooney really liked the unnamed song. And since it hadn’t been overexposed because of the one-time-only use for a Maulers ad, Rooney repurposed it for the Penguins’ “Boys of Winter” commercials.

They did long ago work out a deal with Needle Drop Co., to use it as their official theme. It’s been played when they took the ice for playoff games, for outdoor games at Heinz Field and even as wedding music for season-ticket holders.

The song was the soundtrack for Lemieux’s return from retirement in 2000, Sidney Crosby’s debut in 2005 and the five Cup celebrations. It made the move from Civic Arena and can be heard after games by a man who plays it on a saxophone near the statue honoring Lemieux outside PPG Paints Arena.

And, also, it’s the song of substitute for butter.

“I remember traveling somewhere and seeing a commercial for Royal Crown margarine and that spot used the song,” Rooney said. “I couldn’t believe it. Here’s this song everybody I know thinks of ‘The Penguins Theme’ and it’s being used in a margarine commercial.

“But, you know, anybody could rent it.”
