No, it very much has been awful. Awful as advertised. He's been horrendous most nights.

D-man +/- splits since 11/1:

Maatta: 5 minus games, 7 plus games (16 total)
Riikola: 1 minus game, 2 plus games (8 total)
Pettersson: 0 minus games, 1 plus game (1 total)
Dumoulin: 5 minus games, 5 plus games (16 total)
Oleksiak: 5 minus games, 5 plus games (15 total)
Letang: 7 minus games, 4 plus games (16 total)
Ruhwedel: 4 minus games, 1 plus game (8 total)
Johnson: 7 minus games, 2 plus games (16 total)

Bad things follow him around and it's no accident...

Those are the number of a mediocre to a below average team as a whole. Who is carrying Johnson around the ice most nights as his partner?

I'm guessing you mean Tyler Myers...what does he add to the lineup?
Change of scenery might do him good. Obvious the range he brings. Low risk on an expiring contract so he should be motivated after a trade.

What’s your assessment on him struggling in Winnipeg?

He has had no regular partner all season...he keeps getting put in a basket and dropped on someone else's doorstep with a note that says "I'll die without your help"...

It started with Letang, that was ok I guess...but I think it limited Letang. Then he got pushed to Oleksiak, which seemed to energize Oleksiak, but pushed JMFJ into the "I better carry the puck" mode he has, which would be fine, but he doesn't understand our system doesn't have a defense carry option really...or else Letang would carry it all the time...then he played with Ruhwedel and that was awful...

Last night he played a lot with Pettersson, which made him not suck as much...in that Pettersson is an eraser of mistakes from estupidos...

Tough to cram in our cap situation...he's better for a small market team because I think he makes very little salary this year but has a high cap hit...the amount of gymnastics we would need to do from a cap perspective makes it almost completely untenable...but he's just being pretty normal Tyler Myers all things considered, chases plays around in his own zone, untimely/unsightly turnovers...he's not a genius...

I just don't know what he brings to the lineup that Letang and Johnson don't already bring...and frankly, I've seen enough of the latter...he doesn't solve a problem in my eyes, unless of course by some miracle, Johnson goes the other way...then I don't really care what comes back from Winnipeg, it's all gravy...

If you want to make some excuse for Myers, he plays a lot with Joe Morrow for being an NHLer...which is a weird combination of things to say I feel like...

Tried to find a bad contract in Winnipeg that would be worse than Johnson's in mikey's opinion. Wheeler will probably be bad in a few years, but I settled for Little. 5.3 million until 2024. Probably a better contract than Johnson's :/

Scheifele's contract has to be the biggest bargain in the league.

Barkov's is pretty darn close, if not better.

Sprong scored on his first shot last night.
“When you play four, five minutes a night, you ask any guy, there’s not much you can do sitting on the bench the whole third period,” Sprong told reporters. “You’re not getting out there, it’s tough to do those things. Those are the cards I was dealt. But it’s a new beginning here, a new opportunity, and I’m excited.”

Hubredeau and Trocheck have pretty team friendly contracts as well. Good work Florida.

We are having a discussion of his goal in the NPR section, where it belongs ;)

Stumbled across this highlight video from the last Thrashers game in 2011. It's only slightly interesting because I totally forgot Comrie was a Penguin.

fun fact. I was at that game in ATL. took the drive from Charlotte when we lived there. The deal to move them to WPG hadn't yet been announced, but I remember the scoreboard said that they would be back in the fall. I think everyone in the building knew that was a lie.
funner fact: our local beer league had a charity golf tourney the first Friday in May. I didn't play golf then but I was usually tourney photographer. at one hole we had a Thrashers ticket rep handing out ticket vouchers for the next season for Beat the Pro. I asked him if there'd really be games to go to and he kept insisting there would be. I think we both knew that was a lie.

Somehow the Pens are already back in the playoffs. Thankfully the majority of the Metro sucks this year.
