I’ve been thinking about how putrid the bottom six has been this year and I was going through everyone that has played there this year…and it’s insanely bad

All of these guys underperformed: Blueger, McGinn, Kapanen, Carter, Heinen, Archibald, granlund (so far), Nylander (I guess but he just probably stinks in general)

Not sure really due to injuries: Bonino, Poehling

Overperformed: DOC (but miscast as a 3rd liner)

When looking at all the pens problems, this is the one that infuriates me about Hextall the most. Building bottom lines isn’t an easy task but you gotta hit once in awhile. The misses are just so much to overcome

And, too, there's a drafting and development issue here too...mostly drafting (our dev has been strong)...naturally, that's not on Hextall right now...but why are there no 2019 draft picks that are even close right now...?

We have four NHL games from our 2019 class (3 from Poulin, 1 from Puus-Puus).

Judd Caulfield (a pick I hated) is less than half of a point per game as a senior at UND.
Legare and Poulin don't produce in the AHL.
Puus does, but going on 24, he's 5'9" and not fast.
The Finnish d-man is playing in the second league in Finland...

None of the 2020 skater picks are producing at all...

2018 Addison is gone, Hallander is back and producing in the AHL, so we'll see there...one guy is in the Cheese, the other guy is at Princeton...

You gotta find a way to hit on a guy in a five year window...

2016 to 2020 drafts...
- 90 NHL skater games combined...77 of them are from Calen Addison in Minnesota.

I mean, that's right in the window where you know that Crosby and Malkin are gonna start to need help...and you come up with feathers, through and through...that stinks, man...

Don’t worry. We will trade our way out of it. You know, turning our trash into treasure

Mikey's post really gets to the heart of the problem with this organization right now, and when you look at those numbers at face value, it's just sad and unacceptable and certainly not the fault of one GM (although I would still make major changes in the offseason, especially if they miss the playoffs entirely).

Another tidbit that I meant to share yesterday: Blugers now has 5 points in 10 games with VGK, and while the return for him was decent and I certainly didn't mind the trade at the time, it's another guy we used to employ who is performing well elsewhere (see Frederick Gaudreau), while many of the guys we have here are not.

He's playing more than a minute per game more on a new team than he was playing with the org he had been in for years...

But, look, unless there's really obvious grounds (there isn't that I'm aware of) you can't fire a GM two years in...I mean, that's Cleveland Browns stuff...that's just not how it should go...

Hextall actually did that a year ago, flipping a couple of turds for a really effective top 6 winger in Rackell. Then, he got all the key players re-signed over the summer and the team was rolling into December. And when you look at this team's record *after* that big winning streak - and then you consider how good 87, 71, and 58 have been during that time - it really shows just how little help our star players have gotten.

Yeah, a lot of former Pens there...

Gaudreau, Sundqvist, Reavo, Goligoski (not while he was management here), Addison, Fleury, Gustavsson...

Vancouver only has Tanner Pearson I think...

And Pearson was traded there by GMJR less than a year after getting him from LA, for Erik Badbranson.

What a depreciation in asset to go from Hags to Pearson to Badbranson

Hags for Pearson didn't seem like a bad idea at the time. But it was.

Hags was the team identity of speed. I firmly believe he was the silent straw that stirred those Cup drinks.
