Went onto LGP. Bad move Trip, bad move
Actually, the hockey talk over there today has been considerably better thought out than some other... Avenues. But, unfortunately they still can't grasp the concept of Penguin related and Not Penguin Related. It's just too much for them to handle.
It’s more the people saying that the team will definitely not make the playoffs….4 hours into free agency

Yeah, I pointed out that that was said a lot last year too, then the Pens won the Division.

Hey, it's not easy when people aren't used to forming their own opinions, and the professional bloggers that usually give them opinions to have aren't professionally blogging right now. It is like someone that always gets take out trying to cook, it doesn't go well.

For the volume of posts over there today, I think that it isn't bad.

How can anyone trust Jarry again...? They played with Fleury...

The team likes DeSmith. I do too. But he’s the wrong guy for the moment. I guess the one thing Hextall has going for him is that he knows about goaltending. But Jarry’s leash is exactly one game long, come April. The kill switch on his career with the pens as a starter is going to be a hair trigger.

Halak was the move, if he was gettable.

Not the first young goalie to get hammered in his first playoffs against a well coached team that almost went to the SCF. That said, insurance is needed... what’s Ty Conklin up to?

A really smart guy posted this on the other site... UFA goalies under 34 years old (guys once considered starter level/potential):

Grubauer - $5.9x6 - Expected
Ullmark - $5.0x4 - Going to cost Boston in the long run when he fails
Anderson - $4.5x2 - Overpay but only 2 years
Bernier - $4.125x2 - Worst of all of these contracts
Mrazek - $3.8x3 - Toronto is used to overpaid goaltending, so this works for them
Reimer - $2.25x2 - Pricey backup
Raanta - $2.0x2 - Carolina better hope that he ain't broke as they gave Anderson $9M too
Rittich - $1.25x1 - Best contract of all of these, solid backup at minimal cost.

I would not have wanted the Pens to do any of these. Rittich would not have been bad to push DeSmith as backup, but that is not necessary and so I don't mind that the Pens passed on everyone.

I was just about to say, looking at what a lot of the UFA goalies got on the market, not too concerned with the Pens waiting it out to see if a cheaper option comes by.

Ullmark especially. That's a real hefty contract for a guy who isn't a starter.

Brock McGinn is a good get. Not only is he a solid two way player, but he is a legit threat to score shorthanded. He will absolutely offset the loss of Tanev.

I'm going to wait to see what his media guide photo looks like before I make a decision on this.

Halak, in particular, was the move, if he was gettable.

If not gettable, then I don’t have any strong complaints.

Is this thread really a thread of randomness if its all encompassing of the Pens' moves? Doubt.

Also, like the moves today, I don't think the Pens are far off, and they didn't fall into a trap of getting a terrible goalie in panic.

Though, it was boring...

Hey rylan...

Also, we could have had Nedeljkovic again...this time for a 3 (maybe a 2 for us)...instead, probably the best GM in the league got him and knew it...

Ullmark is a good goalie.

Mcginn is a great signing (your boy KC specifically had him as a target months ago)

Why is everyone clamoring for old ass halak

Hextall: "We’ll look at every position to make ourselves more competitive."

Unique approach, I like it.

I keep on seeing people mention Gudbranson as a possible signing. Is this Gudbranson as in Erik Gudbranson?

Erik Gubrandson would really make this team complete. That's the type of signing that really moves the needle between Pretender and Contender. Steal of the FA.
