Lange's "HEEEEEEEEE shoots and scores" + catchphrase are unparalleled. He's in the hall of fame because of his goal calls. He may have struggled in his later TV years but so did the team. He'd go off on tangents because the play on the ice wasn't interesting in the least. He's been great on the radio, though I believe his schedule is severely limited these days.

Both are things that fill our senses during the entirety of a contest...it's not hard to figure those out, whether you agree or not...

As a Pittsburgh kid, I was in love with Mike Lange's goal calls back in the early 90s. Its meaningless, silly fun. The past few seasons I would listen to the radio broadcast while in the car while I wasn't home to see a game and hearing Mike was pure nostalgia. I have no problem with Mears now, but its more like the guy is just doing a job. If I have to watch the national broadcast and hear those guys (sans Pierre), I'm good with it.

before i begin my brief remarks i'd like to thank you you all for coming and acknowledge that none of this is possible without you
i'd like to start off by saying thanks to my friend Groucho. though he half asses the GDT's i know he truly loves this team. and i'd like to give a special shout out to mikey, who, when he's not loaded, actually makes some salient and thought provoking comments, as does meow (when he's not being a snarky bastard)
i know i'm leaving a few people out but i'm nervous and they tell me i don't have a lot of time so i'll make this quick
mike lange is a legend. though i agree with mr. controversy -aka shmenguin- on a majority of things his take on lange is as bad as a screen door on a submarine
now if you'll excuse me it's time for my afternoon nap

“She wants to sell my monkey” sounds kinda fun when you’re a kid and the guy saying it is acting like he’s inventing history on the fly.

It’s just a weird awkward thing 30 years later when the same guy is saying it, but with the energy and spontaneity of a DMV employee.

If I have my choice of hearing any announcer call any sporting event, it's Lange calling a Penguins game. Frankly nobody else is close.

Given that he was down to home games only before the pandemic, I worry we may not hear him call another game.

I like to think we hold Lange to a pedestal much the way my dad did Bob Prince calling Pirates games. I have no memory of Prince calls, only his Gunner-isms that were passed down. Pirates for me was Lanny Frattare. But through it all, we've been blessed to have 45 years of Lange. That's more longevity than we had a right to expect.

I was just thinking about this the other day. I remember before the season reading that he was waiting until he got a vaccine before calling any games. Being that he's had ample time to get one and we still haven't heard anything about him, seems like cause for concern.
