If it's for Johnson, somebody's going to have to put Steve Dangle on suicide watch.

You could see the relief in his eyes that JJ wasn’t included.

I’m going to just hope that Kapanen plays well enough for us to ignore the rest.

Hes basically Bryan rust lite at this point in his career. Maybe he has a coming out party at 27 like rust did. Idk. I dont like it and probably never will.
Minimal chance Rodrigues signs in TO. Not getting a QO on a 2M contract. Unless he takes 1 year 1M on a UFA deal, hes gone.

I don’t love the trade, but Kapanen is 24 and will contribute a lot more to this team during the dwindling Crosby window than anyone drafted at 15. I know nothing about Hallander other than he was regarded as an okay prospect, which makes him one of our best. Lindgren is nothing but only makes 70k in the minors compared to Warsofsky’s 400k. Rodrigues wasn’t going to get a qualifying offer whereas Aberg will cost significantly less to qualify than Rodrigues if we choose to do so.
My bigger question is cap space. Without Jugs being included the Pens are at 9.17MM in cap space with 17 skaters and no goalies signed and rostered. That’s not a lot to work with.

Pens will get a first and a good prospect back in the goalie deal - not sure you want to look at the deal as Murray+ for Kapanen+....but maybe you do?

I can't imagine us getting a 1 back for Murray...

The best part of the Murray trade will be the ones who bash him and think he sucks will be the first to complain about the return.

It's a good point that people want to look at this deal in a vacuum despite what is likely to be a very busy off season, but like mikey I definitely don't think they'll be getting a 1 for Murray.

Murray has to have enough value to get a decent return, though I agree that a 1st is very unlikely. Is Chiarelli still a GM somewhere?

firsts are traded like candy nowdays - you guys may be right, but i would not be surprised in the least. The only drawback is the loaded goalie market this season and assets that can be had just by signing a contract versus the trade route. But FFS, we just gave a first for a middle 6 guy whose done nothing remarkable his entire career. A 1st for a 2x Cup champ under team control due to contract status who maybe could "bounce back" and be your goalie for the next 10-15 years i think its feasible.

Just a bit of trivia for you to chew on...
Teddy Blueger had the most ice time of any Penguin forward this past season with 1,091:00 minutes.
Rust was second with 1,087:05, Malkin third with 1,073:40
That was mostly due to injuries and such, so guys missing games and not accruing minutes, but Blueger had the most ice time of the forwards.

I'll be honest: I don't watch a lot of the behind the scenes interviews with the Penguins these days. I hadn't really seen Crosby without his helmet off for a few years, so when the "Sports are back!" Hulu commercial played as a Facebook ad this morning, I was surprised at how mature he looked (not old mind you). The ad hasn't made it to YouTube yet, but I did find this gem:
Baby Sid the Kid. One of the coaches says he might have some potential.

I forgot that Kapanen is a RHS. I like that.

Our trade trend is not so good
The Kahun -> Kapanen trajectory is bad
The Kessel -> Zucker trajectory was not very good since we had to add Addison and a 1st
Hagelin for Pearson should have been nice, but backfired
The Marino trade is the saving grace here, I would say
1st + Hållander <-> Kapanen
Kahun <-> Rodrigues + 12 games of Sheary
Galchenyuk + Addison + 1st <-> Zucker
Gudbrandson <-> cap space
6th <-> Marino
Kessel <-> Galchenyuk + POJ
Mättää <-> Kahun
Gubrandson <-> Pearson
Brassard + Shehan + 2nd <-> Bjugstad + McCann
Oleksiak <-> cap space
Sprong <-> Pettersson
Hagelin <-> Pearson
Hunwick + Sheary <-> Cap Space

I think they'll end up with a 3rd and an ok prospect for Murray, unless a team with a ton of 2nd's over the next two years wants to make a move for him.It's a good point that people want to look at this deal in a vacuum despite what is likely to be a very busy off season, but like mikey I definitely don't think they'll be getting a 1 for Murray.

I'm sticking to my RFA compensation value of a 1st and 3rd. It doesn't have to be a 1st and 3rd... but the value.I think they'll end up with a 3rd and an ok prospect for Murray, unless a team with a ton of 2nd's over the next two years wants to make a move for him.It's a good point that people want to look at this deal in a vacuum despite what is likely to be a very busy off season, but like mikey I definitely don't think they'll be getting a 1 for Murray.

I have a difficult time gauging his value. I'm sure he's better than 5AF thinks.

Depending on what his contract wants are, would it be better to wait to deal him after the big UFA goalies sign?
mikey's Thread of Penguin Randomness
I think someone needs to be honest with this value, because he's not worth $6mm+/yr if that's what he's looking for. I personally don't know how to gauge him, because of the UFA market, there may just not be much there worth taking him on.Depending on what his contract wants are, would it be better to wait to deal him after the big UFA goalies sign?

Crosby clearly didn't want to go on set due to COVID, so instead we get this creepy head replacement.
