Yeah, I'm just surprised how acutely aware you are to anything Atlanta Thrashers happening up to the second that it happens...you're like the Bat(wo)man of Thrashers fandom...they were my #2 team for a long time. I used to go to games in ATL in my RoboPenguin (early years) and Malkin (later years) jerseys and a Thrashers hat. I always thought the Thrashers would eventually become my #1 team but they never gave me any reason to.Of course you would be the one to bring up a Thrashers game haha...
my favorite Pens/Thrashers game was in the first few years. they had a giveaway of round "puck" mousepads from WebMD. early in the game there was a call that made the Thrashers fans mad and they let those things FLY! after that I don't think they ever did pre-game giveaways again.
The most anti-Penguin thing I have in my apartment is an Ilya Kovalchuk Thrashers third jersey hanging up...(unless we hate Ziggy Palffy for quitting on us, then it's that jersey, but I don't hate him)...I have it up for two reasons: siiiiiccccckkkkkk jersey. and also, in case Putin does take over America, I likely won't be sold into sex slavery or the salt mines or whatever by his henchmen because I have Kovalchuk and Afinogenov jerseys and other Russian paraphernalia all around...
Wandering off topic...do I only have one jersey of an American player...? Hmm...may be...that's a contest in its own right, I doubt it could reasonably be guessed unless I mentioned it before...

it was really just dumb luck. while WFH I have discovered that morning TV suuuuucks so I'm always looking for something to have in the background. I've really enjoyed the vintage games that NHLN has on most mornings. for a lot of those pre 2000 games I didn't have much access to televised hockey games.Yeah, I'm just surprised how acutely aware you are to anything Atlanta Thrashers happening up to the second that it happens...you're like the Bat(wo)man of Thrashers fandom...they were my #2 team for a long time. My Canadian player jerseys edge out my Czech/Slovak jerseys on account of buying that Andrew Ebbett practice jersey. I have a Team USA jersey as well but it has my own name on it because I'm that guy.

Love: Vintage games. Once I'm done with my scouting reports for the year, I'll need to lean heavily on them to keep me from going insane until the world that I enjoy opens back up again.
Dis-love: Having your own name on the back of a jersey. But you already leaned into the curve of knowing that's not the right way to go, which I appreciate it.
Have you tried: Re: morning television (I haven't had TV in several years, but I'm aware of this). The drunk ladies' hour on the Today Show? A couple of women (from Cougartown? I don't know...) start punishing wine and vodka at like 9 am on a weekday and it doesn't seem like they've been doing blow all night, so it's confusing from that perspective and, as a result, they don't talk about anything too life changing...but still...I'm sure they talk about, ya know, Grey's Anatomy and where their third marriages each went wrong or something that passes the time...

I have a blank USA jersey from the 2006 Olympics in Torino.

Been watching the 1991 cup final on ATT Sports.
How the heck did people watch live hockey back then without the score/clock overlay? Probably the most infuriating thing about trying to watch the old broadcast haha (save for the copious amount of water skiing by anyone chasing a puck carrier).

Random thoughts on the 91 pens. Forgot about Scott Young. Man that guy really had a hell of a career. 342 goals in 1181 games and 2 cups. Pens acquired him mid-season that year for robbie brown. Then for some reason he signed in Italy after the season... couldn't find any articles about it. But he did play in the Olympics that year, then in March was traded to Quebec for Bryam Fogarty.
Bryan Fogarty... superstar offensive defenseman but couldn't stay sober. Was selected 6 picks before Joe Sakic in 1987. As great as he was he never stuck because of his issues. Pens let him walk for nothing after 12 games. He ended up dying at the age of 32.
Back to Scott young, today I learned he's the director of player development for the pens.

Scott Young was a contract dispute situation, as you might have guessed. Converted defenseman too, if I recall correctly.
While quickly looking for an article on Young...I learned that the Bruins offer sheeted Kevin Stevens in the summer of '91 and the Pens matched the five year contract. We would have received five first round picks had we opted to let him go...for some reason, I don't think I've ever heard that before in my life somehow...

Crazy. I had most definitely never heard of Stevens getting an offer sheet before.

The need for a competitive advantage to help score goals in this era is laughable with how poor the goaltending was. Borderline insanity.Penalty for stick too curved. Ain't seen that for a while.

"numbers say" as if they took some sort of pure, objective look at it...
I put together a junk stat where I totaled up all of the All-Star Team ballots for the decade (obviously, Draisaitl, McDavid, MacK, and Jack will clean up this year)...5 points for 1st, 3 points for 2nd, 1 point for 3rd just like the actual ballot...this is, of course, biased towards dominant seasons and doesn't take into account year to year consistency.
1. Crosby 3524 (leads all centers in 1st AND 2nd place votes)
2. McDavid 2125
3. Stamkos 989
4. Tavares 903
5. Malkin 876
6. Toews 635
7. MacKinnon 584
8. Sedin 555
9. Getzlaf 498
10. Kopitar 365
11. Thornton 299
12. Giroux 270
13. Backstrom 182
14. Seguin 97
15. Bergeron 74
16. Kesler 72
17. Spezza 53
18. Kuznetsov 38
19. Schiefele 26
20. Datsyuk 25
That's not my list...Bergeron would be much higher, of course...but Crosby is clearly #1, Malkin belongs, I'd probably find room for Bergy in the top 5, not Kopitar though...

Maybe "numbers" is defensive zone draws on your strong side while killing a penalty.
Boom. Bergeron no. 1

Maybe Mackinnon and McDavid and Draisaitl and Datsyuk don't count because they didn't play all 10. If that's the criteria, Bergeron is below 87 and 71, and probably Stamkos. I'll listen to an argument between him, Getzlaf, Tavares, and Backstrom for the final 2 spots.
