no dumo = no cup in 2017, and he played well above replacement level during that run. yinz are sleeping on some real value.
stevens is a mystery to me. i watched the cup video like 50 times when i was a kid, but beyond the highlights, i have no clue how crucial he was to the team's success, and whether or not there was a lemieux factor here or if he really was a force of nature on his own. so i can't really dispute him being top dog, but i have doubts.
and i already regret not putting orpik at the bottom.

One could argue having his face rearranged in game 7 vs. the Islanders in '93 had an impact in them not winning a 3rd straight cup.Source of the post stevens is a mystery to me. i watched the cup video like 50 times when i was a kid, but beyond the highlights, i have no clue how crucial he was to the team's success, and whether or not there was a lemieux factor here or if he really was a force of nature on his own. so i can't really dispute him being top dog, but i have doubts.
Either way, he did have an impact imo. Having a power forward was important back then, and he was that with a knack for scoring in tight spaces.

I'm surprised at how little love Mullen is getting, to be honest.

I figure a surprising number of people on here don't even know who Joe Mullen is.

Most don't remember (in person) those first two Cup wins.
Sigh.

Joe Mullen is the 91-95 Kessel and almost as good as PhilI'm surprised at how little love Mullen is getting, to be honest.

Stevens was a force of nature. Like everyone he greatly benefited from Mario, but dude was a 40 goal scorer and tied for 16th in the league in 90-91 when Mario barely played. Physical force, great in the room as the outspoken leader that Mario wasn't, finished everything that came his way, and was great on the PP.no dumo = no cup in 2017, and he played well above replacement level during that run. yinz are sleeping on some real value.

Stevens or Barrasso as the top choice was the hardest decision for me, but Barrasso's inability to see the puck from outside the blue line cost the team after the two cup runs. Also, he was an dadhole. Mullen put up a surprising number of points as a Penguin, but regular season injury in 90-91 and playoff injury in 91-92 puts him behind Phil. Dumo is steady and put together two good cup runs, especially 16-17 without Letang, but he's a boring player. Orpik only got one cup here and turned into a Canaan.

I was browsing old stats and saw Mario had 44 points in 23 playoff games in 1991. Freaking amazing.

Speaking of, SportsNet put out this video the other day. It has some lesser known Mario Moments that were fun to watch. Tony's comment reminded me of the line in the video about his return game in Philly, something to the gist of "Mario gets his 40th goal, upon returning from missing 23 games." Just such a different time.

There are a few Mario career stats that Sid might beat, if he stays healthy and plays well into his late 30s.I was browsing old stats and saw Mario had 44 points in 23 playoff games in 1991. Freaking amazing.
However, one that will never be touched is Mario's SH goal totals.
Mario: 49 SHG
Sid: 3 SHG
Geno: 4 SHG
That's not happening.

I remember the first time I saw 9. I still don't understand how he was able to cut back to the center of the ice like that while avoiding the stick check.Speaking of, SportsNet put out this video the other day. The 'shovel shot' just made me laugh. Looks like the stuff you'd see in my shitty inline games, except he's playing against NHLers.
