I don't think Sullivan is the problem, but I'm not convinced he is the solution either right now. So if you believe that window is still open, and I agree that it is, you now have the chance to snag a coach who just recently has led his team to three Stanley Cups. It's completely rational to think about a coaching change in the situation the Penguins are in.

The CP hire is simply Mario taking care of his buddies, as he always does. Warren Young is an Amateur Scout, Gilles Meloche and Kevin Stevens are Special Assignment Scouts, when Recchi came back post lockout his brother Matt was hired as a WHL scout, etc. It's just what they do. Patrick's quote about his hiring pretty much says it all: “I watch games all night long, like every night forever,” Patrick said. “But [now] there’s a purpose to it. It’s nice to have a purpose, especially with this organization.” I don't know where he's living at this point, but this is probably nothing more than him going to every home game in town and sending a report back to the front office, like when Jim Leyland was a Pittsburgh based scout for the Cardinals.

Advanced scouting is for future opponents, and gaining on their strategy and the weaknesses of their players...typically a former coach ends up in that role. To be clear, that is not at odds with what's being said...

Take the top two lines to a semblance of something that worked and hit the reset button on the hate for the only young goal scoring winger the organization has and play him with a legitimate playmaking center instead of trying to teach him to be Craig Adams. Choose whoever you considered to be more defensively responsbile out of ZAR and Simon and stick them on 3LW, put the other on 4LW, and then just watch the Ws pile up. The first line is proven to work. The second line (RIP Hagelin) is proven to work. The third line should theoretically work. The fourth line, well who gives a ****. Sheahan is what he is and Rust is overpaid like every other free agent signing GMJR has done, but that line should be fine.
