On phone so short post ;)

From Ottawa 18.5 million
Karlsson extended + Ryan

From Pens 10 million
Letang + Hagelin

Then Ottawa should want Jarry, Guentzel or hopefully for us Sprong.

I go with Letang + Hagelin + Sprong + Jarry. Expensive but worth it. I would really like to keep Guentzel. Brassard and Kessel are probably not so interesting. Neither is our probably late first draft pick.
Remember, Ottawa does not have their own 1st round pick this year...there is some vested in interest in:
a) getting one
b) not finishing ******* last haha

Good for us :) Then I try with Letang+Hagelin + Jarry + first.

Ottawa only have Karlsson for a year and want to release Ryan.

I would have liked that but can you do a sign and trade IRL? JJ would probably not be happy since he thought he signed five years with Sid and not in hell...

I wouldn't say there's any rules stopping anyone from doing that, but there's definitely a human element to consider

You can do a sign and trade in real life...it's a very, very dumb proposition for obvious reasons...

In fact, sign and trade just entered the NHL realm (outside one weird example I can think of) because the eight-year vs seven-year contract limitations for non-original clubs...that doesn't apply to JMFJ of course...

To clarify: I know that you can do sign and trade, but it should destroy your reputation. Very few future UFA's would consider your club unless they received a NTC. At least in my world/opinion.

Yeah, let's hear some (more) realistic scenarios so we can decide...

There's nothing else to talk about really, I'd go through it...

So we reduce the price by taking Bobby Ryan, that is something we'd almost certainly have to do...but we'd have to give some of that value back to negotiation an extension. Let's say that extension was 7 yrs, $77 mil for argument's sake and Bobby Ryan comes with nothing retained...
I would rather have

Letang at 4x$7.25
-than-
Karlsson at 7x$11 and Ryan at 4x$7.25

The Bobby Ryan part would most likely have to be a Brassard situation of a 3rd team taking a piece of Ryan.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have inquired about wingers Max Pacioretty and Jeff Skinner. They are also open to trading away Derick Brassard.
The first time I read that headline, I saw "The Pittsburgh Penguins have acquired wingers Max Pacioretty and Jeff Skinner." and thought BAH GOD, HE DID IT.

I love Dad, and who doesn't? Dad has won a Stanley Cup 100% of the seasons he's played for the Penguins. Crosby and Malkin don't even come close.

We made an offer more than a week ago for Skinner and were rebuffed...I wonder if the Canes are circling around again because they aren't getting the value they thought they would out of him...

Any idea what our offer entailed? Skinner would certainly help our LW/RW imbalance.

Unfortunately, yes and unfortunately I can't post it publicly...it was a pretty meaty offer imo for a rental...it is not Sprong related...that's about as far as I can go with it...apologies...

Hmmmm meaty. At draft time our heaviest players were Oleksiak and Sheahan....

Oleksiak and Sheahan for Skinner confirmed.

I honestly don't know what a meaty offer would include if Sprong wasn't part of the deal. If they had any belief they could re-sign the somehow still only 26 year old Skinner I would probably be willing to send Sprong the other way.
