Ah that sucks...

Letang hasn't been great, but he has been playing better lately. He'll be ok.

Question:
Will the Penguins make a big trade to try and shake things up this season?

Define “big”. First line player? Second? No to the former, yes to the latter.

The Penguins have hit 22 posts or crossbars this year...4th in the NHL (24 is the most, Wsh).

Fun fact: Justin Schultz is leading the team in plus minus....at +1.

Is this a real stat? The Penguins have hit 22 posts or crossbars this year...4th in the NHL (24 is the most, Wsh).
Seems like a lot of shots will do that.

They're real, and they're spectacular...

I think if they get any consistency from their top two lines 5v5 they could just add a bottom six player. My worry is that their defense is just poor right now. Is that because the defense has been regressed, or no interest? I think if it's either of those things - you have to shake it up somehow.Define “big”. First line player? Second? No to the former, yes to the latter.

I don't understand the question as phrased, but would be interested in discussing it...
mikey's Thread of Penguin Randomness
Is the defense playing poorly because they're regressing to the mean (implying they were playing over their heads in the playoffs) or because they are disinterested

Needs to be broken down...team defense playing poorly vs. individual actors playing poorly...let's start there, then we can get determine the issues...

After those last two playoff runs, I honestly can't imagine how this team could get up for these regular season games.

We can debate their actual play all day, but I think this is the root of the issue. After those last two playoff runs, I honestly can't imagine how this team could get up for these regular season games.

That's what Madden is back to saying. He thinks they're tired after all the hockey they've played.

I would argue mentally tired, not physically. That's what Madden is back to saying. He thinks they're tired after all the hockey they've played.

Mentally probably more so than physically. They'll be ok.

If that's the case, do you shake the team up by any means necessary, or do you wait to see what they give in the playoffs and adjust from there this off-season? As a coach - it appears to be wearing on Sullivan. We can debate their actual play all day, but I think this is the root of the issue. After those last two playoff runs, I honestly can't imagine how this team could get up for these regular season games.

I think what needs to happen most of all is the calendar year to end.

I think they should shake up the roster, but for me, coming off of back to back cups, I don't think they have anything to lose. Going into the season, I viewed Kessel as expendable, but I think he's changed that with his season thus far.If that's the case, do you shake the team up by any means necessary, or do you wait to see what they give in the playoffs and adjust from there this off-season? I think some of those fresh contracts might be appealing to get off the books (Dumo, Sheary and Schultz). And this would be a clear cut hockey trade. They probably need to have some savy vet on the roster that they can rally around too.

Psh - I'd keep Schultz and drop Letang in a heartbeat. He hasn't shown that he'll be able to get back to where he was pre-injury

I would prefer Schultz too, but I'm kind of assuming that Letang's contract is not moveable without giving up other assets to facilitate the trade.Psh - I'd keep Schultz and drop Letang in a heartbeat. He hasn't shown that he'll be able to get back to where he was pre-injury
The gamble would be that your moving Schultz when his value is highest and betting on Letang regains #1D form.
