Well, if you're a scout, you better believe you know what you're watching. I don't mind guys having private conversations with folks (maybe former players) that they trust. I talk to scouts about players in situations where we're not "competing", so to speak. Off hand comments like Bartkowski's have no value.
But...and I hate to say this...only about 20 or 25% of the hockey world is actually worth talking to if you're looking for advice like that. There's a lot of bad scouts out there...as we are all acutely aware...but like, it's not bad luck...just some people aren't skilled in this regard...

I always assumed pro scouting was a retirement gig for former players that weren't savvy enough to have a real second career.

They've bailed the Pens out in countless games and still lost. This team has to be Top 5 in odd man rushes allowed.I’m mad we have the best goaltending tandem in the league and can’t insulate them long enough to scrape a few wins together

I'd love to know how many times that has happened, honestly. To me, that's a pipe dream. If we can't afford him right now, we're unlikely to be able to afford him in the offseason when he's a UFA.Hey we could always sign Jake in the offseason! This really sucks.

Those prospects? Kris Beech, Michal Sivek, and Ross Lupaschuk.

I'm expecting tonight to be Jake's last game as a Penguin

Gonna be Kotkaniemi, Drury, and a first from Carolina.
Necas slides back to center for 2nd line C. Kotkaniemi was already playing 4C on Carolina, they don't care about that.
Pens have Drury/Kotkaniemi play 2c/3c until whichever figures it out. Trade Eller.

It sucks, but for the betterment of this team the trade absolutely has to happen. To not do it would be egregiously bad asset management.

Also no way he signs back here (if he is going strictly as a rental somewhere) as he will get more money elsewhere than he would here easily.
Loved him being here, loved him as a player, but the situation necessitates him getting traded to start a retool/rebuild.

I'd assume that any significant deal for Jake would have a contract extension in place before he ships out. He ain't coming back here friends.

It sounds like from what I've read at least that most teams are looking at getting him purely as a rental. No extension in place when the trade happens (or one that is agreed upon etc). Now that could be BS, but that is what is floating around right now.

I'm guessing Vegas.

I wonder if most teams deem him as someone who needs a premier center to be successful. It sounds like from what I've read at least that most teams are looking at getting him purely as a rental. I also have serious doubts that a team sends us a 1st, young NHL player, and prospects for a known rental.

Someone just sent me an insane return for Guentzel that they think is out there. I said no way we're getting all that. Teams can't be giving a second line guy that's moving the needle in this deal I don't think.
I think there's a "take a chance young roster guy" and a 19 or 20 year old deal in here and then the pick reacts to the quality of those A and B pieces...
