If only something could’ve happened in last years playoffs to make Hextall see that goaltending needed attention.

Even beyond Jarry’s injury issues, we need to find a new top guy. Jarry is too streaky and I dont think he’d be able to string together 4 series worth of consistent goaltending
Varlamov??

I don’t think we have a choice with Jarry. If these injuries are due to a singular problem that can be fixed with surgery, you sign him. There’s no options is free agency. The only other option is to take a risk on John Gibson and hope he doesn’t continue to be more oft injured than Jarry. But we probably don’t even have the draft capital for that anyways

The EBUG made the trip, which is obviously rare. He's the goaltending coach for the Lemieux Center, so isn't a Penguins employee. Technically.

They could potentially solidify the goalie position for a decade if they'd acquire him. This is the answerNedeljkovic.

Since the All-Star break the Penguins rank first in the NHL in 5-on-5 shot attempts per 60 minutes, first in 5-on-5 expected goals per 60 minutes (by a MASSIVE margin), and fifth in expected goal share per 60 minutes.
Their lead in expected goals per 60 minutes over the next closest team (3.52 to 3.32) is the same as the gap from the No. 2 team to the No. 8 team in the league during that stretch (Carolina to Edmonton).
Nobody has been better at generating chances and outchancing their opponents.
In their 23 games since the All-Star break the Penguins have only had six games where their expected goal share during 5-on-5 play was lower than 50 percent. They have had 13 out of those 23 games where their expected goal share was over 54 percent, including Thursday’s game in Dallas.
Their record in those games is 6-7-0.

So… goaltending then?

That's not what that was getting at..

So… lack of finishing then?
mikey's Thread of Penguin Randomness
It's the lack of finishing chances. That's been the albatross. And at various times, it's impacted all four lines and especially the defensemen. Aside from 58, the defense doesn't score at all.

Solidify with the guy who couldn't maintain a spot in the league this year...?
I'm not saying he's bad, but you guys are acting like he's the best goalie in the league that no one knows about and I don't really get it.

Man that’s annoying. We’re 7th in Expected Goal Differential (Expected Goals For - Expected Goals Against) and of course first (or last?) in Goals For Above Expected: https://www.moneypuck.com/teams.htmSince the All-Star break the Penguins rank first in the NHL in 5-on-5 shot attempts per 60 minutes, first in 5-on-5 expected goals per 60 minutes (by a MASSIVE margin), and fifth in expected goal share per 60 minutes.

so looks like we’re better than our record but that doesn’t mean much. We’re only 2 points down to the Isles and I think if we can get the first WC spot we have a real chance. I think if we get the second WC we’ll get decimated by the Bruins in the first round but I think if we end up playing the Canes in round 1 (which is winnable) and one of the Devils or Rags in round 2 (also winnable), we have a legitimate shot to beat the Bruins in the conference semis
a lot of ifs though. Gotta start converting on the chances that we know we’re getting
