They have a game tonight, so they didn't have two days to wait. Duh.

Wonder who else is injured?

They could have gone 11/7 against the worst team in the league

Feels like they're trying to avoid 11 forwards because they don't want to overwork the top 2 lines anymore than they are, but I'm not really basing that off of anything substantial

Rust and Granlund are out, so they'll go 11/7 anyway.

I'd run Nylander (who I still think isn't an NHLer) on malkins line and see if he can play well enough to try and make oconnor-granlund-rust work

We've won cups with fedotenko, talbot, Scott Wilson, carl hagelin on his wing...

I don't care about the clubs I'll never set foot in. Just tell me you're fixing the sound so concerts don't sound like they're coming out of the blown speakers in the back of a '93 Toyota Tercel.

You're in luck:
These improvements include a new 50-foot by 33-foot state-of-the-art center hung scoreboard, about twice as large as the existing scoreboard, new LED ribbon boards, sound system, control room, and content management system.

Yeah, was a bit of a loaded statement. They already announced the scoreboard and sound improvements a few months ago. I think something like $11m of the total is going to that.

Just to give iamjs due credit:
coming soon to PPG Paints Arena: a new scoreboard, updated sound system and ribbon boards around the lower bowl
By this time next year, Penguins fans at PPG Paints Arena will be able to track from the scoreboard how long their favorite player has been on the ice and just how fast that goal by Sidney Crosby flew into the net.

The enhancements are part of a new and expanded scoreboard the team plans to have in place for next hockey season after the Sports & Exhibition Authority board approved $6.8 million in reimbursements at its meeting Thursday.

Those reimbursements not only will cover a big chunk of the price for the new scoreboard but also part of the cost to replace the PPG Paints Arena sound system and some other improvements.

According to the SEA, the new scoreboard will be 1,374 square feet larger than the existing one, which has been in use since the Uptown venue opened in 2010.

PPG Paints Arena now has the third smallest scoreboard of all National Hockey League arenas, said Kevin Acklin, Penguins president of business operations.

The new one will bring it to the middle of the pack.

Mr. Acklin said the larger scoreboard, to be manufactured by Mitsubishi, will offer an “improved fan experience,” allowing them to track the players on the ice, shift time, skating speed, shot velocity and other game-related data.

“Other newer NHL arenas have adopted these larger, more interactive scoreboards, and they’ve become more of an industry standard,” he said.

Under its lease with the Penguins, the SEA is obligated to pay to replace scoreboards of similar size. The team will pick up the cost related to the extra square footage.

In addition to the scoreboard, the reimbursements approved Thursday will help to cover the cost of new ribbon boards in the seating bowl and at the ticket office and a new sound system.

The latter will include speakers, amplifiers and other components needed to complement the larger scoreboard, according to the SEA. The existing sound system is failing and requires frequent repairs, it stated.

In all, the SEA will pay out nearly $6.4 million for the scoreboard, ribbon board and sound improvements, with the Penguins chipping in another estimated $3 million to $4 million.

The upgrades “represent the first significant investments in the 12-year history of PPG Paints Arena,” Mr. Acklin said.

“All of these components were at end of life, unsupported by service and parts, and no longer compatible with current operating systems,” he said.

He noted that any expansion costs beyond like-for-like replacements will be paid for by the hockey team.

The SEA’s share will come from a capital reserve fund set up for the venue and financed by revenue generated from parking at the former Civic Arena site and a parking garage next to PPG Paints venue.

Biggest improvement they could make is to get rid of that nasty RC cola

The scoreboard and speaker upgrade is very needed. I also like that the Pens are beating the Wings 6-2 in that render. It's strange that the upgrade will only bring them to the "middle of the pack" though. If you're going to upgrade, go all out.

It'd be nice if they could remove those ugly tan seats and replace with yellow.
