Cool, he's not going to sniff those #s playing on the 3rd line and no PP1 time.

He went to Dartmouth!

No one is treating him like he's Tanner Glass...?
For a team as close to the cap as the Pens are/were, $5 mil and term for a guy who won't move up from the bottom 6 is just... why?

lol, for some reason I read that as postmortem at first.

OK if no more deals, I'm good with it. Nothing drastic that the next GM needs to deal with. Clean house and see what Dubas is doing when he gets fired

If we're really done, the kulikov add is pretty weird.

Probably just for depth and to dump McGinn. Or back-up in case they could move someone.

You're setting yourself up for disappointment, Morkle.

Honestly, if this is the end of today, hextall did a nice job ridding himself of a couple of bad contracts that he himself signed - a difficilt thing to admit your own mistakes. And added a few helpful pieces that make the team better this season, and next, without really costing much of anything.
What's the net? A 2nd, a 5th, and a 7th?
He may be toast after the season, but this trade deadline helps his case.

Surprised a D wasn’t flipped for a F. That’s a lot of NHL caliber D eating nachos while your bottom 6 still needed an upgrade.

2nd, 5th, 7th, Kapanen, Blueger and McGinn
for
Granlund, Bonino and Kulikov - roughly a mil in cap savings, and an extra spot falling off after the year
I'm okay with it

Kulikov is weird, I def like shedding McGinn's contract but I feel like there was another move that fell through. No harm in him or POJ eating nachos though

Me? I don't care if they carry 10 defensemen or whatever they have. They dumped cap, and get cap back at the end of the year. Mission accomplished, thanks for your service, good luck at your next stop. You're setting yourself up for disappointment, Morkle.

I have a feeling that Hextall will still be here at the start of next season.
mikey's Thread of Penguin Randomness
Well, if that's the case, then so-be-it and none of this matters anyways. I'd prefer a analytics focused GM who isn't afraid to take risks, but that's me.

For next year, we essentially replace Kapanen (3.2) and McGinn (2.75) with Granlund (5) and O'Connor (~850k)2nd, 5th, 7th, Kapanen, Blueger and McGinn

I agree, but it's just a feeling I have that as long as the Fenway Group isn't losing money they don't seem to be all that interested in what is going on here.Well, if that's the case, then so-be-it and none of this matters anyways. I'd prefer a analytics focused GM who isn't afraid to take risks, but that's me.

The Pens dumping deals and getting 50% retained on both trades today only to end up with with 8 defensemen on the NHL roster, two NHL quality defensemen in the AHL, and $1.38MM in unused cap space would be an excellent representation of the Ron Hextall School of Management.
