I forgot that Johnston had a partial second season.Mike Bossy's brother in law says hello:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pierre_CreamerDespite coaching a Mario Lemieux-led team that finished fourth in goals scored, Creamer's 1987-88 Penguins struggled defensively and finished last in the Patrick Division. He was relieved of his position at season's end; Creamer is currently the only "one year wonder" coach in NHL history to have a winning record

I forgot MJ coached at all. He was horrible.

That's what I remember from MJ's tenure.

Showing a gif of MJ winning at the end of a game...sick burn...

He was uncomfortable winning in such convincing fashion. 5 goals, what a waste!
He **** sucked.

He just looks genuinely shocked that the Pens won a 5-2 game.

I defended him pretty hard because he was that much needed palate cleanser after the late Byslma years.

Yup, this is right. It was tough to swallow as a fanbase, I know...but we really needed that particular guy or a very similar guy to get us back to square for the next guy in line...that next guy, who many people thought would never get a head coaching job in the NHL again after his performance in Boston, is still here...the longest tenured coach in team history...Sully deserves the majority of that credit, no question...but having an MJ type, fundamental-focused guy after Bylsma made Sully's job a lot easier...and he capitalized on it...I defended him pretty hard because he was that much needed palate cleanser after the late Byslma years.
Johnston meanwhile returned to Portland where he has a 229-107 record over the last six years...

I always thought MJ was head coach in name and not much else. I picture him trying to run drills in practice and Sid and co just being like "nah, we good."
Basically, Lemieux with Edzo.

I picture MJ’s practice as very low energy and kind of like a guy would run a young youth camp. “Ok now you come here and stop and your buddy over there will pass you the puck. Then you go around this cone and shoot the puck on net. Then you can have a juice box”

Far cry from Byslma’s breakout philosophy of “if we get these two consecutive miracles, we will breakout successfully”

I like that he'll give it to the officials.
Bylsma would just give them a smug smile, like he was too good to argue. Mike Johnstown was afraid of them

No, it didn't indeed. Bylsma's machinations weren't implemented in that season that he took over. It wasn't until he kept trying to push for more and more complex offenses later on that things fell apart...Bylsma's miracle breakout stuff was on full display in 2012 and 2013 primarily. No surprise, some of our biggest meltdowns in history.
Bylsma did open things up a bit for us in 2009, not taking all of his credit. But he didn't get his **** in for a little while...

I remember Paul Martin giving an interview where he talked about Bylsma's breakout system... and how when it worked, it was unstoppable thing of beauty...
The problem was... anything that is a miracle is a thing of beauty... two miracles is an unstoppable thing of beauty.
