Firing Sullivan literally makes no sense to me...

What specifically should Sullivan have done better...? And who is coming in to replace him...?

No one is arguing that he should be fired. I’m just saying that I wouldn’t put it past the organization to do so because the NHL can be dumb

does anyone think Lane Lambert is going to be better in NY than Trotz? no. But they did that anyway

Agreed. What he does with a perennial M*A*S*H unit of a team is impressive.

Man, I still can’t believe it’s over. I miss Pens games already.

Very, very early ranking on the likelihood of players staying, based on what information is circulating now...
1. Malkin

2. Rust

3. Letang

4. Rakell

Obvious disclaimers apply, of course...but I think that's about where we're at at this moment in time...
I will be a sad panda if this is the outcome. I stand by my previous statement that I would prioritize Letang back unless he wants the keys to the kingdom. His skillset is difficult to replace

I actually thought we had a good team om paper this year so I wouldn't mind to have roughly the same squad next year if possible. I still think that we should have traded Erod halfway into the season and that Pettersson is overpaid.

Hextall has been great so far, so I hope he stays. We have traded for good players without losing too many assets.

Welp. If we lose Letang, this team’s window shuts.

Yea. There’s literally no one to replace him internally or externally. And don’t say Mike Matheson or John Klingberg

Every time I hear that sid has "a history of concussions"... All I can really think of are two? Was it confirmed he did have a concussion from Steckel/Hedman? And then Niskanen in the playoffs.

There are several other stars out there who have had it worse than him, I do believe (Bergeron?). If management held him out they deserve to be canned.

I think big media just glosses over the neck meat thing, and just chalks it up to concussion(s).

yeah but that's Lou. he routinely proves that he's an Old Man That Yells At Clouds and is horribly out of touch with reality.
if FSG fires Sullivan then this team is really in trouble. :scared:

Realistically, everyone can be "replaced." Does that mean same production/style? Absolutely not. But I've seen this repeated pretty often everywhere, every person is replaceable. They'll find someone else, adjust the scheme and work with what they have - that's pretty much how Sullivan survived or does survive every single year when injuries happen. lol they did this the cup years too, when Letang went down.

Maybe....this means they can figure out a new scheme for the team, and getting someone who does better on the PP without offending the old guard.

Firing Sullivan would be a foolish move, at least at this point.

Also, we we're saying the window was closed in 2015. I'm still pissed we wasted so many years on Bylsma - a vastly inferior coach (he Should have been gone after 2012, which was an embarrassment to the franchise). I've never seen a coach mismanage a roster - particularly the bottom 6 - as badly as he did.

I don't consider a "window" to be closed. You just build a roster that's more geared to playoff hockey, get a solid 1B to compliment Jarry, and make sure you qualify for the playoffs and hope your guys stay healthy when you get there. Then, one of your goalies gets hot, and boom.

imo, as long as Sid is producing the window isn't closed and you spend to the cap. When he declines, you shut it down.

Possibly. I know a lot of people have time for Lane Lambert. He's been learning under Trotz for like a decade plus. It's not like Trotz's firing was performance-based anyhow...

Nah. No one with half a brain closed the window in 2015. This team needs a number 1 d-man. Ain’t going no where without one.

Except to a Stanley Cup win like they did the year Letang sat out 42 games and the playoffs. And that was a roster built with the expectation that he would be there. Imagine what they could do with it assembled knowing he's not available.

Who would you try to get to replace him as 1D?

I figured you’d have a hard time distinguishing between this team and a team from 6 seasons ago. Those two teams have two players in common.

Letang being out during the SC run was the Ron Hainsey top pair situation wasn't it?

I wouldn't want the situation to happen again, but that's your best case argument that you don't "need" Letang. Six years ago yadda yadda, but they did win without him.

I still think he's the one I'd be most willing to pay out of all of this, but if he's getting crazy money to leave, I wouldn't match it.

They stole one without him six years ago so they *need* a 7 to 10 year older version of him is some really good logic pretzeling, IMO.
