Generation X Prospect/Young Player that you wanted to stick around, but didn't...

Postby mikey » Sun Sep 04, 2016 8:15 pm

Title says it all...needless to say, we saw a lot of young players roll through here after the loss in '01 Eastern Conference Final to New Jersey (that was 15 years ago now)...to wit, only 3 or 4 players from that '04 were even in the league three years later (Malone, Orpik, Scuderi and I guess Fleury)...

Who did you want to stick around that either the lockout caused to return to Europe or Sheriff Shero decided to flush...?

Feel free to name someone that wasn't in the poll, I'm just trying to think of them off the top of my head based on all the rookie cards I had collected of these guys (I was gonna be rich when they all panned out and the dynasty came to be...)

Hilbert played with Crosby, right? I think he was on the other side of the break...I thought we got him off waivers near the deadline, he went like a point per with Crosby and then we didn't QO him or some such...

You're right on there. Didn't even get a league min offer. Ended up with the isles I think. Hilbert - Crosby - Armstrong could have been great as the most cost effective line I hockey. I'm not being serious. It was odd they found someone that could play with Crosby and didn't offer him anything.

I think the long play was they wanted someone at a similar place in their development arc as Sid and someone that could grow with him mentally...but yeah, pro scouting must have recommended hard against him being worth a contract going forward...

I think Hilbert was a ****** too if memory serves...that might have helped lubricate his exit...

I went with Beech simply because I wanted him to justify the roughly 2 week shock 17-year old me went through that we actually traded Jaromir Jagr.

Not sure if he counts as a prospect but I was big on Ric Jackman. Saw no reason why he couldn't be the PP QB for years.

I really, really, really wanted Aleksey Morozov to work out.

Why isn't Morozov on the list? He'd definitely get my vote.

Not listed, but Ross Lupaschuk was my 15 year old self's justification for the Jagr trade. I believed he was going to be the next great offensive defenseman for the Pens. That assclown wasn't even good enough to come up here and suck.

Went with Surovy. Dude always seemed to have a 20+ goal scorer shot. The rest of the game wasn't there though.

I always had a soft spot, no pun intended, for the Jarved Comet, Hans Lutefisk Meatball Jonsson.

Just looking at Morozov's stats: 49 points in 72 games, 25 in 27, and 50 in 75 games on one of the worst teams ever assembled in 03-04. Its a shame he didn't come back to play in the Crosby/Malkin era. He would have put up points and probably saved us from things like the Ziggy Palffy experiment.

Really thought I added Lupaschuk. Hmph...because I had some hopes for him myself.

Morozov is not someone I consider to be part of this group. Morozov really was good enough to play in the league and had played a number of seasons before the team fell into the abyss...he has a much higher reputation than any of these players combined, to avoid a lot of "retrospect" votes, I left Mikael Samuelsson out as well...

True story. Shane Endicott tried to take a learn to skate chair out with him for warm ups.

Toby Petersen...assuming he counts. I feel like that c generation thing started around 01 or 02 so he should count. No one else I would even consider for this answer.

The number of typos in that last post was disturbing.

Didn't Toby score a hattrick in the first game of the season on Mario's wing or something?
