Neither of Downie's penalties this game were actual penalties.

Downie seems like he's kind of a joke to other teams. He's not enough of a physical threat to really make anyone think twice about anything. He just talks and takes penalties.

He's a good player when he's actually playing, but I don't see any real value in his pest/pseudo enforcer role.

Pens are trying to keep Adams from being the stand in punching bag so they can sign him for a final victory lap in the 2015-2016 season...

I ended up liking Downie more than I thought I would (it's clear that he actually cares which I often wonder about with some other guys...) but his reputation definitely precedes him. He will never get the benefit of the doubt on penalties and, often, will get undeserved calls. (I'm thinking about when Byfuglien hit him after his goal earlier this year - just terrible.) But he also become unhinged really easily and does take some really stupid penalties.

I'd like to see how he does in the playoffs and go from there.

I told Corvidae that I wouldn't be surprised if the Pens signed Adams to at least one more year (since they really seem to like him) - he looked like he wanted to throw up and I lol'd.
