I wondered what everyone's opinion of Steve Downie was given the season he's had so far.
Personally, I love his mixture of craziness and ability to contribute to the scoreboard. If he has a positive playoffs, I'd like to see him back next year.

I think he's exactly what you paid for. You take the good with the bad with the kind of guy like that, but I do believe that him and Lappy will benefit in the playoffs.

Bass on the season?
I think it depends on the money. If it's low enough, I absolutely want him back. Rather have him on our team than on a team playing us.

I don't see any other viable options, honestly. I wouldn't want anyone in WBS filling the holes he fills, unless it was Farnham. Farnham is only a 4th liner though. Downie can play any role.

Oops, yeah, that should be based. How/can I edit that?Bass on the season?

Like with anything else, it depends on the value. He's not a player that I would elect not to re-sign without at least hearing the numbers involved first...I'm pretty good with what he's brought to the team overall and hopefully that will be magnified in the postseason...

I'd give him a raise to 1.5 and say goodbye if he wants more.

I voted to wait until after the playoffs.

I want to see how he controls himself in the playoffs, i think this entire year has been tocchet working with him to get him to a point they can unlease him in the playoffs without it costing us penalties left and right. He has such a great tool set for a third liner.
Steve Downie
Every team needs sandpaper, so yes.

He's the right amount of crazy and skill, but I wouldn't spend more than 2 mil a year on that and only 2 years max.

I want to see how he plays in the playoffs. He needs to calm the "take stupid penalties" thing down.
he's also been inconsistent offensively, but has picked it up recently, so I'm ok with it

Over the last couple weeks since the Dallas misconducts brigade, he's really seemed to have smartened things up and only doing what's within the boundaries of his role.I want to see how he plays in the playoffs. He needs to calm the "take stupid penalties" thing down.

All other things equal, including a reasonable salary, I keep him. On a team where he shouldn't be a focal point - we have fafillions of dollar tied up in supastahs - he's gaming up.

I like that crazy MFer and I want him back. Nobody in the league does what he does. The best UFA signing this season.
