Penguins 2016 Draft Recap
If the Pens ultimately lost to Washington or Tampa then I think you would have seen Schultz re-sign here for a chance to play for a winner. The moment they won the cup I think it went from "They resurrected my career" to "That was awesome, now which terrible team wants to overpay me again?"

Penguins 2016 Draft Recap
yeah, if I'm in Schultz' situation and being honest with myself, another cup win doesn't mean as much as a few more million in the bank, I would think. It's not like he's Sid, Geno, Kessel, Letang, etc. and need to validate greatness. Schultz will be forgotten as soon as he leaves the NHL, if I were him I'd chase the money unabashedlyIf the Pens ultimately lost to Washington or Tampa then I think you would have seen Schultz re-sign here for a chance to play for a winner. Justin Schultz in a Top 4 role is a terrifying thought.

Penguins 2016 Draft Recap
The one issue, which @Gaucho obviously hits on, is that there's still no guarantee that a GM offers him an insane contract based on his limited minutes with the Pens. He was a bottom pairing for us, and teams have been relatively responsible with regards to contracts these past few years.
Penguins 2016 Draft Recap
One would think that there will be at least one idiot GM out there who will do that. Our only chance of signing him is if all the other GM's are actually sane. That's a big if.The one issue, which @Gaucho obviously hits on, is that there's still no guarantee that a GM offers him an insane contract based on his limited minutes with the Pens. Penguins 2016 Draft Recap
I'd be surprised if multiple teams (or even one team) would be willing to go $4M+ per year for Schultz. I don't know the basis for that. Plus, if there were, they would have traded for his rights. Just like Alex Chiasson was today. So I don't believe that that is the case. I highly doubt he's more than a two and a half million d-man...
Penguins 2016 Draft Recap
So you don't think he can at least match his current salary? I wouldn't be surprised if some GM offered that.
Penguins 2016 Draft Recap
With time to reflect (and **** Avatar to watch), yes, that was the correct move. I'd keep him around at the right price for fear of injuries and/or Pouliot needing to go the VHL for further training.

Penguins 2016 Draft Recap
Just by looking at comparable salaries, I'd say it's unlikely, but you never know.

Penguins 2016 Draft Recap
I'd be pretty surprised. I mean, who is the comparable on that? Like I said, if there was a few GMs, we would have gotten a mid round pick for his rights. I don't think there's a market like that for him. Now, as a UFA, no arbitration rights and the whole bit, he'll have suitors for sure. There's probably a dozen teams that would like to get a RHS who can skate on the cheap, no doubt...but I can't imagine that bidding war tops out above his QO...I think he'll be fortunate to get even 75% of the way there...So you don't think he can at least match his current salary? I wouldn't be surprised if some GM offered that.

Penguins 2016 Draft Recap
Not sure where else to put this, but the Pens have reportedly signed Christian Hilbrich, captain at Cornell. Any opinions on this guy?

Penguins 2016 Draft Recap
I have no idea where to put this because there is no thread for random discussion and it's obviously not worth its own thread...
I think the Penguins ought to sign Landon Ferraro...not qualified by Boston, but he fits our speed mold. He is really, really fast. He killed penalties for Boston last year I think, Ray's son, he doesn't have a ton of skill but he can shoot ok...his dad scored like 400 goals...he would fit nicely as a 4th line RW for us...that's all I got...

He's probably not in a position to turn down a two way deal.
