Never made it to a championship parade before..

I know the route isn't published yet but at any rate I assume to get a good spot in one of the garages or along the route you need to go down in the middle of the night and make it work until 1130a?

What was the route in 2009? Does it end at the point park?

Rorabaugh retweeted this, so I guess it's probably a legit source.

(If at work: 11:30 on Wednesday. "Same route as in 09: Staging on Busway → Grant → Blvd. of Allies → End on Stanwix.")

Park on the North Shore, ride the T over to Gateway Center, and walk up through Market Square, or take the T to Steel Plaza. Parade planned. 8-)

Anyone go to the last one? I'm thinking about taking the kids, but I don't want to sit out all morning for a spot and don't want to go if we won't be able to see anything. I don't mind waiting myself, but with kids, that's going to change things. Is it a hassle?

Not a parent, but honestly if you have kids I'd either go early or not at all. The crowd was 20-30 people deep, easy. If you don't get a spot up front somewhere, or know someone that will allow you in a building along the route in order to watch from a window, those kids will never see anything.

My wife and I had just graduated college in 09 and hopped from place to place because we weren't there early enough to get close. Being college age we could wedge ourselves in some interesting places to still be able to see decently, but young kids that won't work.

Really that garage they are talking about above would be your BEST bet. You could get a parking spot along the wall there if early enough and the kids can hang out in the car while you wait all morning. If I didn't have a project going on at work right now that would be my play.

I went before 6am last time and was in the front at the very end of the route...right next to the actual malkamania guy and we bsed a bit. I would definitely go as early as possible if you have kids and be ready to suffer through the wait in the heat.

Im not working wednesday but im just going to stay home and work in the yard, i just dont want to deal with traffic.

Get a wall spot in Oxford One on Tuesday night, place lawn chairs between vehicle and wall, get alternative transportation home Tuesday night, use said alternative transportation to commute downtown with kiddos on Wednesday, arrive at Oxford One around 11 AM on Wednesday to find lawn chairs expertly reserved your view for the parade?

The 09 parade was spectacular. Nothing really unusual, but the great weather, seeing all the players up close, the Cup, just made for a confluence of awesome.

Which makes me pissed as Dangerous Toys that I will miss this year's version as I'll still be out of state.

If you can get there, go. Unforgettable time.

I'm leaving the Chicagoland area tomorrow morning to drive in.. Planning on waking up and arriving downtown around 0430-0500. General gameplan is to park at the top of the hill by consol and walk to downtown, hoping that allows for easy hop onto the HOV lane afterwards (a bit of a hike but we're young (enough hah!)).

Torn between trying for the garage or going to the point. Garage seems like it'll be a few minutes of fun and then its gone versus going to the stage area and being there awhile while they do the speeches and whatever. Trade off is can probably get closer along the route or garage.

Decisions Decisions...

NHL network guy already upset the Penguins are having the parade during Howe's funeral. I guess he expected Sid and Mario to be at the funeral or at the very least there should be no celebrating.

Lol that guy can bug off. He's probably still upset over the hand-shaking "incident" in 09 too.

Head's up - this intersection will close tonight at 9pm to allow for the construction of the stage. And parade route streets will close at 9am tomorrow.

As others have mentioned, the best advice it to get into town early if you want a prime spot.

I'm going to try to get to one of the lower floors in my building to watch the parade. I can watch it from my floor, but I'm on the 40th. The Cup will look like a thimble from up here. LOL
