I can't complain much. It was an unscheduled second game of a back-to-back with an AHL goalie, and they almost upended the best team in the league. Lick your wounds and go beat the Rangers.

I'm absolutely done with letang.

He is the most overpaid player on this team. Not kessel.

Malkin needs to clean up the penalties, we lost because of a dumb neutral zone penalty

He can't QB a powerplay. It's never going to happen.

imo, defencemen that have a huge cap hit should be able to QB a powerplay

Yeah the only player you could possibly blame is Malkin for giving the best PP a league a chance late in the game.

Not sure I agree with that (and I think know that Letang is a numb skull).

We have "kick me" signs on our back. Thankfully most teams are just as hesitant to mess up their hair as the pens are, so this doesn't happen often, but this team is just such an epic collection of softies. I can't stand games like this where we bend over and let the bad guys I've us wedgies for an hour.

Geno was mostly crap tonight, because he refuses to simply ignore Ovi's challenges.

The Caps took a page out of the old Flyers handbook. Got the Pens to worry about the nonsense.

Yeah, this team still has all the hallmarks of a team that will get manhandled and intimidated in the more physical play during the playoffs. Hope they find some sandpaper within their souls.

I didn't see that. We just got manhandled and the caps fed off of it. We had nothing to feed off of and Sid was sleepy the whole game.

Zero shots from Sid. Not good enough.

The Rangers game will be telling. While the Pens have been playing better, I am still extremely concerned when they match up against hard-checking, physically dominating teams. In the previous Rangers game, they were blanked 3-0 and outhit a staggering 46-25. Despite outshooting the Rangers by a wide margin, Sid was held without a SOG.

They need to have a ton of people in front of the net like they have been recently on Thursday. Seeing Sid find space and create scoring chances against a team like that will be very encouraging.

The Capitals are the same exact way they were in the 1990's...which is fascinating in a way. They are big, slow, and have one great goal scorer, and they win games by creating and feeding off of chaos. I'm not impressed by them and I think they'll have a tough time advancing to the SCF.

That said, Sid and Geno were not good enough in this game, but I like the way the bottom 6 played and I liked the way they crashed the net on Holtby on several occasions. It was the type of game which, if they were the home team and had Fleury in net they probably win.

I thought Sid was fine. Geno's penalty, and the goal scored off of the ensuing PP, killed the Pens.

With them deciding to play Fleury against the poo Arizona team and Murray against the #1 Caps, I accepted that the Pens had basically decided to throw this game away, write it up as a loss and move on, even before it was played. That they hung in there and didn't get blown out was actually a pleasant turn.

This.

For the most part, it was a good game on both sides. The Malkin penalty hurt us, but so did our effort on the point on the ensuing PK. The officiating is still a hot mess overall. Calls that weren't calls last week, ignoring obvious penalties, etc.

Bottom six and Murray played well. Fleury didn't play because they likely had a schedule already and this game being inserted in threw it off...I don't think the Pens are in the business of throwing games right now anyhow...plus, Murray gives you a chance to win this or any game, and he did...now, if Zatkoff played, sure, but Murray can play in the NHL right now...and he does...

My only issue with Murray was that his rebound control wasn't tight last night. It didn't lead to any goals against, but it's worth noting.

From one replay I could have sworn Oshie lifted Geno's stick and that's why it came up. After what could be labeled borderline at best hits all night, I thought it was a weak call.

The Kunitz tripping call was the weakest of the night, IMO.

That's what bothered me about this game, and most NHL games this season. The officiating is so inconsistent and at times absolutely nonsensical.
