St. Louis retired and, thus, thankfully will not be a Penguin.

regarding perron, there are 2 explanations for what happened last year:

- somewhere in edmonton, being on a loser team turned him into a loser player. this is probably not likely, but shame on him if that's the case.
-he was injured to an extent that drastically hindered his abilities. and by hindered, i mean "removed all". if this was the case, shame on management for not giving him time to heal. i understand that the unexpected fight for a playoff spot may have forced their hand, but at some point, they needed to realize that the injured version of perron was no better than whatever jobber they put in his spot in his absence.

neither scenario gives me the warm and fuzzies, but i guess i prefer the 2nd one. i want to see some better personnel management from the top down this year, that's for sure.

Just looking over the FA list...man, if there was a way to move Scuderi and even hold a bit of salary if you gotta, and bring in Oduya or Ehrhoff for the 2nd pairing, that really solidifies the D.

Still rumblings of Sutter getting moved...maybe ya swap him for a defenseman and go after Fehr or the many other 3C's still out there.

Wasn't Perron playing with a broken rib towards the end?

I think there's potentially a third contributing factor, which is that these guys are humans, and sometimes it takes more time than we hope to adapt to a new city and new teammates, etc. Neal similarly looked bad when he first got here, and then hit 40g the next year (granted, he played his first partial season and playoffs without Gino and Sid, so that's obviously relevant). Perron also got here earlier in the season compared to Neal, but I generally give players the benefit of the doubt when they get here mid-season and they're intended as more of a hockey trade versus a deadline acquisition.

I'd love Fehr.

There is no place for sound logic in this argument, slappy.

I just wanna see Perron-Crosby-Kessel at least once. Phil is quite an underrated passer, so there's a lot of playmaking on a line like that.

Oduya and Franson are not good players. I'd bring back Ehrhoff if Scuderi was jettisoned. But it doesn't seem like that was or is the plan. I just get that inclination from hearing Rutherford address the situation. But maybe he's just pumping up his value a bit.

Maybe we can work something with Dallas for Trevor Daley, as that relationship may be ending sooner or later...

If Scuds was identified as the right guy to mentor and help along the inexperienced dmen a bit, I'm fine with keeping him.

Perron for a 2nd rounder that's great, for a first rounder that's a mistake.

Yeah, I'm fine with it as well. Though I question why so many third pairing guys have been brought in...someone is going to get pressed up a rung it seems...Ian Cole, maybe Erixon even, someone is going to have step up and establish themselves like Niskanen did before...let's see who it is. Because if we get that, we're so bad off...one step up and Pouliot progress, we're in good shape. Pouliot lack of progress and Dumo, Cole, Lovejoy, Andersson, Erixon all playing like 6s and we're boned...

Well I won't delve into it, I'll just say I disagree completely. The dude can game, and I'd put my money on him finding it this year with a full offseason and training camp with this team under his belt.

I'm not saying he can't play. I like his game. I don't like paying that premium for him.

It looks like Pouliot and Maatta are both expected to play Top 4 minutes next season ... oh well, we can always bring back Mark Eaton.

I mean, it's either fix the top 6 with proven talent or fix the top 4. There's not really an either or when you have Crosby, Malkin, & Letang, as well as the lack of assets in the system. You already have a couple ELCs to fill in the remaining gaps (Maatta, Pouliot, and now Plotnikov). The way the draft picks were dished away like candy in years prior, you can't hope for a lot of young guys to be waiting to fill in. And with the Pens' wonderful scouting history, you can't expect for a Palat/Johnson/Kucherov-esque line to be ready to step up and dominate. The closest the Pens had was the defensive duo of Chorney & Dumoulin...

I think Cole's play last year was that of a top 4 player.

I'd like to think he'd be able to maintain it.
