if we can all agree that Sid is at least top 10 alltime, where does Geno go in alltime lists?
14th and 18th alltime in regular season and playoffs points per game, a Conn Smythe, 2 Cups, a Hart and 2 Art Rosses

Ted then calls me over to sit by him at his desk and starts clicking his mouse to show me lots of game videos he’d stored on his computer that prove that the NHL wants the Pittsburgh Penguins to win and the Capitals to lose. I was too giddy at what was taking place to retain much of what I was shown, but remember clips of hits by Caps, including Alex Ovechkin, that garnered NHL suspensions, alongside clips of similar hits by Penguins players on Ovechkin and others that went unpunished by the league. I also recall leaving his office thinking: 1)Ted knows his hockey 2)he’s as nice and interesting as I’d figured, and 3)Holy mother of god he’s a big conspiracy guy!

Do we have to agree to the first part to participate in the second part...or is the question supposed to be framed like: how far behind Sid is Geno?Source of the post if we can all agree that Sid is at least top 10 alltime, where does Geno go in alltime lists?

Sid hasn't played 25 years yet so mikey can't rank him quite yet

So much easier to talk about all-time Pens lists. Much more finite and quantifiable.Do we have to agree to the first part to participate in the second part...or is the question supposed to be framed like: how far behind Sid is Geno?Source of the post if we can all agree that Sid is at least top 10 alltime, where does Geno go in alltime lists?

All right...so one way to go about this is to set some benchmarks...
I'm going to try to stick to more modern players because it will elicit more conversation...I'm going to frame them roughly...very roughly...in an order of how I think they ought to be ranked (off the top of my head) but are still relevant to Malkin...you guys tell me where you think he fits in this group based on what he has accomplished as of 6/2/2017:
Peter Forsberg
Eric Lindros
Joe Thornton
Sergei Fedorov
Ron Francis
Doug Gilmour
Adam Oates
Henrik Zetterberg
Mike Modano
Dale Hawerchuk
Where does Malkin fit? Top? Bottom? In between which two players?

Below Forsberg, above Lindros
No particular reasoning, just a gut feeling

I think Fedorov should be a little lower on that list, and would probably have Malkin on par with him this far.

How many prime years do we think Crosby and Malkin have left?

If we win this one...they'll probably just alternate years instead of games...so probably 8 to 10, split between them...
In all honesty, this is generally when you start to wobble a little in terms of production, right in this zone they're in...Sid, in particular, looks like a tremendous athlete, so I'm thinking he can push through a few more impact seasons...Geno's insane physical tools make him a threat until the legs give out, a la Alexander Mogilny...

I wouldn't be surprised to see Sid play until he's almost 40. Dude is a physical specimen.

Thornton being higher than Feds?

Kinda figured he'd be in one. Still hoping that it's to give the foot time to rest and nothing more serious.

I would like to remind everyone that he played significant minutes after that shot block. I've played with hairline fractures in my feet before, but I don't know how you could put any weight on a busted ankle, never mind play hockey.

*snaps fingers quickly in succession*Thornton being higher than Feds?
Uh
Try to stay focused. You have no idea whether or not I have them tied or close or whatever...it was just a rough outline to see where Malkin falls.
Though, I am curious as to how far down you slide a Hart trophy winner, 4x First- or Second-Team All-Star (at center), 3x assist leader, with 5x top-5 points finishes compared to a Hart Trophy winner, 1x First- or Second-Team All-Star, a never-finished-top-5-in-assists-er, 1x top-5 point getter...
I'll grant that Fedorov was better defensively and better in the playoffs...but Fedorov, outside of his insane '94 season, really didn't rev it up in the regular season...almost as if, Fedorov in the regular season was Joe in the playoffs...which granted, again, I like Feds in May...but Feds had some helping hands that Thornton never did too...how much do you rate playoff performance and at what premium...and then also ignore mentioning Gilmour...
I don't know...was it big of enough of an oversight (if at all) to mention independent of the subject matter...? I'd be curious to hear that claim...

What was Karlsson playing with? Was that fractures or just a sore ankle?

Karlsson played with two fractures in his heel, as well. He looked good after returning from that blocked shot, and it's standard procedure to go into a boot and put no weight on your foot after something like that.
Like I said, if he can get his foot into his boot, he's playing. He can get an injection for any pain.

Yeah I don't know about that...Forsberg, Lindros, Thornton and Fedorov, who top that list, all have their warts...injury, injury, playoffs, turned it on/off...
But I'm not still not sure Malkin is the best of that group...

I have zero idea what I'm talking about.Oh, you mean picking from another team and then exchanging that player for Fleury...? Sorry, that's not how I read that. In that case, I rescind my "no"...my apologies...

Oddly enough Francis being in there is what really threw me off. I would put Geno near the top of that list if Ronnie wasn't in the middle. Of course I'm a Francis mark so I could be way off.Yeah I don't know about that...Forsberg, Lindros, Thornton and Fedorov, who top that list, all have their warts...injury, injury, playoffs, turned it on/off...
