Injury aside, I'm glad that they are not making the mistake of slotting him as the 4th line center to start the season. As cadams has pointed out, he might turn out to be apt for that role, but that would be a bit irresponsible for his development. We're not talking Staal here.

Even though Rutherford "took the blame" this was a Shero issue. I think Bennett went into last season with 9 games of waiver eligibility left. He got injured in the preseason. So, maybe it was a mistake not to send him down to the AHL when he returned from injury, and leave him there. But I don't think Rutherford regime is responsible for his lack of development.....that's on Shero.Rutherford regretted not keeping him down in WBS longer. So, yes, he was rushed according to the GM and missed development time.Bennett was rushed? They aren't going to rush Sundqvist into the NHL especially after Rutherford took blame for rushing Bennett to fast last year. He needs some quality minutes in WBS.
I think the kid is going to be good, but he has what, 1 game of pro North-Amercian hockey under his belt? He's only 21, let him get top 6 time to work on his offense and skating so he can develop into a really good third line center in a couple years and can step in then.

Eventually the Bennett experiment will be put to bed, and he'll be looked back on as fondly as Milan Kraft.

So how many AHL games are you supposed to give "non stars" before bringing them to the NHL? 50? 160? 724?

In a situation where he could actually skate better than an east coast leaguer?Kraft could have played in the league in a different situation...

All Czechs can't skate...Kraft would have been fine...I mean, Christ, Jiri Hudler plays in the NHL...Kraft's skating was better than Hudler's unless my memory is fading...

Exactly. Petr Sykora? The list goes on and on.
Kraft would've been plenty good to hang if he were 10 years older.

I loved his skill, but hudler and sykora made careers for themselves. Kraft had one respectable year then left and nobody ever wanted him back.

Did anyone on that 2004 Penguins team survive in the NHL even years later...? Fleury, Orpik, Scuderi...any others...?
I think if Kraft wanted to stick around, he could have made it...maybe not as a top line scorer...but on a bad team, he could have done some stuff...
