A hot dog fueled machine. Like Terminator, I believe.A few quotes about Kessel (from Yohe):More praise & such in the article. Bonino, Sullivan, GMJR also praise his performance today.Phil Kessel is never completely comfortable when speaking with the media, and is especially uncomfortable when discussing himself. He much prefers speaking about his teammates.
So, a teammate did the talking for him. While I was discussing Saturday’s 4-1 win against the Flyers with Kessel, Patric Hornqvist barged into the conversation.
“I just wanted to say,” Hornqvist chimed in, “I think Phil was our best player.”
---
Hagelin’s description of Kessel speaks volumes of his performance. “He was a machine out there,” Hagelin said. “He won a lot of battles, used his body. He skated pucks down." A machine? Kessel?

Just finished the game. Comments.
The breakout is awesome right now. I wasn't crazy of the flip and chase into the neutral zone at first, but with all the speed we have at F, it has been working.
Hagelin buries so many shots into the body of the goalie because I don't think he wants to miss the net. Think of him and Kessel. Kessel misses the net a high clip because he's cutting it so fine, trying to pick corners. Hagelin shots to hit the net and the logo magnet grabs a lot of them. I don't care either way, just an observation.
Letang - otherworldly
Fleury had a good game. Only seeing 19 shots or whatever it was can be very difficult for a netminder. Especially a puck finder like Fleury. Those types of goalies need a rhythm.

As per Hagelin's complete ineptitude at finishing, is that something the coach's would bring up and harp on in practice?
I don't think it's necessarily a "its something hell never learn to do" type situation, like Shaq and free throws. I imagine Hagelin is skilled enough to develop some sort of nuance in front of the net other than dumping it right into the goalie's chest.
If I were a coach, I'd treat it like a Willie Mays Hayes type situation and get him to learn to keep the shot low. He's so fast he probably has a better chance at the five hole than most guys

That game reminded me of the 08/09 playoff games against the flyers. The flyers defense exposed greatly while the speed of the Penguins eats them up.

Regardless of whether he does this on purpose or not, I much prefer it over missing the net and possibly leading to a quick breakout going the other way.Source of the post Hagelin buries so many shots into the body of the goalie because I don't think he wants to miss the net.

Re: Hagelin's finishing skills. That is more of an offseason thing, with a skills coach. He is so unpolished, that day to day, here and there stuff would have minimal impact. If he puts in the work with a skills coach over the summer, he might be able to get a shade above novice level...

still amazed at the goal-no goal-no goal-goal sequence of calls. Could there be anything more NHL than that?
(Sure looked like the replays Root showed it may have gotten the shaft of his stick after his leg anyway...

I think the first exchange was the ref called a goal, then discussed with all officials...they ruled on the ice "no goal" - and they made that announcement so that there was a definitive call on the ice...
Then they reviewed it, came away with "no goal" - evidently, the ref misheard Toronto's ruling...and then called it a goal, which is ultimately correct. The first sequence is explainable...the second sequence seemed like a two-man game of telephone gone wrong, I can't explain that...

Good point. Nothing worse than the Letang slapper that careens beautifully around the boards and springs a 2 on 1 the other way.

Before Algernon sees this and demands a Letang trade, I almost consider this the "old" Letang at this point. He's been pretty solid getting the puck on net since Sullivan took over (that last part could just be a coincidence).Regardless of whether he does this on purpose or not, I much prefer it over missing the net and possibly leading to a quick breakout going the other way.Source of the post Hagelin buries so many shots into the body of the goalie because I don't think he wants to miss the net.

Oh yeah, I definitely agree. His accuracy has been greatly improved.

That half-slap shot of his is a nice improvement over whatever trash he was doing before.
This is as close to a compliment as I can muster.

Anybody go to the game? Only disappointment was on TV, it didn't look or sound like there were too many Pens fans. I saw some and heard some cheering but it was not that loud, even Bob Errey mentioned there aren't many Pens jerseys. I was surprised as this was the most in demand game of the season and Flyers attendance has berm down this season....the Rangers brought a lot of fans.
So was this the case, where there not many and if so why? Flyers late season push? Pens struggles vs Phi or just an aberration?

I thought about going, but had way too much to do at home around the game. It does seem like there were fewer Pens fans at the game, but on the flip-side, more Flyers fans got to witness their team get pounded in person.Source of the post So was this the case, where there not many and if so why?
